C-sections

Placenta accretta or multiple c/s..please come in

Does anyone have any experience with this or know anyone who has?what was the outcome? I just had my 3rd c/s and my ob said that this is something to worry about if I had a fourth. I do want a fourth, but I dont know if I want to take a chance anymore.

Re: Placenta accretta or multiple c/s..please come in

  • You do have a higher chance of placenta accreta with multiple c-sections.  Normally the placenta detaches its self from the uterine wall with out complications.  In placenta accreta the placenta attaches to the myometrium (muscle) of the uterus and does not detach. Due to the bleeding that occurs with this, the main way to "fix" the problem is to have a hysterectomy.

With that in mind, if you truly want a fourth baby someday and you get the green light from your OB to have another baby - I say go for it. Although you are at a higher risk for the possibility of this happening, it may not occur. But please go with what your OB is recommending for you as each women is different.

     I hope that helps! :)

  • I know one person who had a placenta previa and placenta accreta and the outcome was not good.  She lost her baby and her uterus and would have died without multiple blood transfusions.  I would talk to your OB and try to get a better idea of your personal risk.  The more c/s you have, the higher the risk, but it may also depend on the condition of your uterus--for example, did your OB find a lot of scar tissue during your last delivery?  Good luck with your choice.

  • the more c-sections you have the higher the risk. I just had my 4th with no problems, and I have been given the green light to have a 5th if I want to. But I agree with pp you will have to talk to your OB and see how high they think your risks are and then go from there. Good luck with your choice and I hope you are able to have another one if that's what you want!
  • I am pregnant with my 7th, and all previous deliveries have been via c/s.  That being said, I guess I have been blessed and I have had no complications with any of them.  My last pregnancy it looked like I might have placenta previa, but it moved all on its own.  This is definitely my last, as I will be getting my tubes tied.  I think Dr's in general have to give you the whole spiel about the risks to cover themselves in case something goes wrong.  If  you look at the statistics, generally speaking, I should have had as many c/s as I have and still be here.  I think overall if you feel comfortable with your doctor, and you have a good relationship with him, then go with what you feel is best.  Good luck.
