Single Parents

Positive single parenting books?

It seems more and more that I will be doing this journey without my husband. And I was wondering if there was anything that you ladies may have read that has "helped" with this transition? I just need to be "ok" with this for my daughter and her soon to be little sibling and I have no idea how to get there from here.

Re: Positive single parenting books?

  • Nope. Just the bump :) I have read a few books on manipulators but that's it.

  • That might not be a bad idea for sure. Honestly and keep in mind I go from fine to almost crying on at the drop of a hat. But part of me is right this moment relieved I mean at least I don't have to take care of him now also. Hopefully he can get the help he needs to be a good dad and MAYBE this would have a chance down the road but there has been so much damage and hurt I don't foresee us coming out of this.

  • I don't have any book suggestions, but from my experience time works wonders!  I know that's horrible to hear because there is nothing you can do to speed time, but honestly it's the best healer.

Counseling is also a good thing; it helps you to keep a positive perspective and gives you coping skills.

    Best of luck!

  • Counseling helped me a lot.  It depends on what your situation is.  I know that I read a lot of books about abusive situations (verbal/emotional/manipulation).

    Here are a few:

"He's Just No Good for You: Your Guide for Getting Out of a Destructive RElationship"

    "The Manipulative Man"

"Why Does He Do That?  Inside the Minds of Angry, Controlling Men"

  • I saw a book called "Co-Parenting with a Jerk" DIdn't have a chance to pick it up though...
