Trouble with overnight diapers "exploding"?

I think this was like the 4th or 5th one.  I went to take of LOs pjs this AM and the gel crap was everywhere.  I don't know if we got a bad batch or what.  Maybe it's because he's more active now ?  No clue but it's a giant PITA to have to bathe him and clean up that mess first thing in the morning.  Anyone had this problem? We currently use the Pampers Extra Protection overnights.   Should we try another brand?  TIA

  • The same thing happened to us with pampers and huggies.  I called both companies and I was given a refund for both.  I was so pissed!  I just didn't seem safe.  So, I ended up switching all together to Seventh Generation Diapers.  I LOVE them!  They have overnights... But, I ended up just putting LO is a size bigger diaper at night.   That has really worked for us.

  • Yes, we had the exact same problem with the exact same diapers.  It was super annoying!  That gel crap sticks to everything.  I called the company, and they sent me a refund for the box.  (At first they just offered coupons, but I told them we had a whole box of diapers we couldn't use and I was mad about it.)  Now, we just use the regular size 4 Pampers Cruisers at night with no problem.

They also said the gel is non-toxic, and won't hurt the baby's skin, FYI.  They said it is non-toxic to the point that can even be ingested, though I wouldn't test this assertion, lol.

  • We found Luvs to be great for awhile and we also tend to make sure that if they are about to outgrow the size of diaper we went to the next size for night time.  We recently switched to Huggies overnights and they have worked great too.  Our girls don't tend to poop at night too often, but when they start to wake up they usually do but we have had no big messes thankfully! Good Luck!
  • we use target dipes in a size up for overnights.  no problems.  if i have to put her in a pamper overnight (if we're out of target) it always leaks through.

  • I use cloth diapers so I've only dealt with 4 poop explosions since baby was born.

My older son I used disposables with, he had at least 5 explosions a week, and I touched and handled poop so much more then I do now using cloth. As for the gel...that stuff makes me sick to my stomach knowing what is in it. *shudder*

  • Thanks for the replies.  I may try just going up a size at night.  To clarify, I don't mean a "poop explosion."  I mean the diaper itself explodes and leaks that gel all over the place :)

being a cloth diaper user, that sounds more disgusting that poop everywhere.  Stick out tongue

  • We had that problem a couples times. I would definitely try going up a size. DD is now in Baby Dry size 6 (yes, the biggest they have) and fills them every night. I'm not sure what we're going to do as she gets bigger, but for now they are working.

  • Go a size larger at night they are more absorbent that way. I went through the exploding diapers before figuring this out and it was a mess!!!
  • we use luvs and have never had that issue plus they are cheaper:)
