What if you and your ex come up with your own visitation schedule and completely agree on splitting of assets? Do you have go to court, or just have a judge sign off on the agreements?
It totally depends on your jurisdiction. I live in Colorado. My X and I were able to agree to things without going to court. We filed a parenting plan and divided all assets. Then we submitted our paperwork to the court and got it finalized. We never went before a judge. That's not the case in all states though.
Like the PP said, I think it would depend on where you are. I know that the X and I didn't have to. We were able to decide with our lawyers, have the stipulation submitted and signed.
