Any rowers out there?

I'm hoping there are!  But I'm afraid I might hear crickets on this one...  I've been rowing since high school, I'm in a club now, and I need to decide if I should sign up for this season or not.

I've asked/googled around and all I've heard about is erging while pregnant, but really nothing about going out on the water.  I'm fine with erging, but I'd love to get out on the water at least a little bit!

Did any of you row while pregnant?  How long were you able to keep it up?

Re: Any rowers out there?

  • I don't know whether you're still checking this thread... but just in case: I'm a rower! I've rowed since college (UK) and I now live in Mexico.

I was rowing here on the olympic lake and it was beautiful but I actually had to stop because it was a long way away and getting there and back was eating up all my free time. I am still erging and if it was easier for me to get on the water, I would definitely still be rowing. I don't think it is a problem unless your doctor gives you a medical reason not to. I guess getting hit in the stomach by a blade handle would be my biggest worry but that's not likely unless you're sweep rowing with novices.

I plan to erg for as long as possible. I know eventually I'll be too big, but according to friends who've rowed, it's a different point in the pregnancy for everyone... So just keep on keeping on while you can! It's got to be good for you and the baby!
