Parenting after 35

Thinking of having another

I have two little ones now and I'm approaching 34 and wondering if (a) I can keep up with another baby and the two toddlers and (b) how difficult it will be to conceive this late. I love the twins and DH and I would love for them to have a little brother or sister, but just not sure. Thoughts?

Re: Thinking of having another

  • (a)Yes.

    (b) Depends on you. Some people never have trouble, ever (my g-ma had her last in her late 40's). Some people have trouble and require assistance. Statistically speaking, you still have a very good chance for the next ten years, it's just that the TTC period gets slightly longer. But on averages, we're only talking months.

And FTR, 34 is still young. I got this lecture from my dr when I went in for my first prenatal with S at 36. Hmm <This was his look at me. I had zero other risk factors, and he said that even moms over 40 would still be considered low risk if age was their only risk factor. He would know, the average age of FTM is over 30 in my area and I know quite a few just starting at 35. 35 is the new 25 ::repeats in head::

Everything she said. 34 is young, one's ability to conceive, at any age, depends on their own body, and the risks associated with pregnancy depend on your eggs/body.

My .02 is that if you want another and have the energy and financial resources then you should try.

On this board, the average of first conception is older than 35.  I think if you want to have another, then you should go for it.  If you had conception issue the first time, you might have them again, maybe not.

  • I'm 43.  I'm still thinking about another.  you've got a long time to decide.

If 35 is the new 25 and 40 is the new 30, then where is my 32 year old body and why do I feel 62 most days?  Someone needs to have a talk with my body and explain the facts to it.

As stated by the others, 34 is still young, we conceived our first when I was 38 on the first try and no problems! We are not pregnant with #2 mostly because it was discovered that DH had some sperm problems so we needed some help from the fertility treatments to use my eggs and his sperm. I'm 20 weeks now and got an "A' on my amnio report.  So just get DH checked ... many times in conception is blamed on the woman.

  • Thank you so much for the encouragement--or maybe I should say reinforcement of what I was thinking. DH has me all worried about whether we can do this, and I was starting to doubt whether it could work, but I think it would be so worth it to give our LOs a little sib. Appreciate the support!
