Got an extra carseat? Travel tips?

Aggieoj asked me to post for her--she's looking for anyone with an extra carseat for her to travel with this weekend. She's got a padded bag for it and would only be using it between the airport and hotel.

She's thinking of taking her DD to where her DH is on a 2-wk business trip. First time flying alone with kiddo (who is 1.5). Any tips for her on how to make it as easy as possible?

Dear Bump: You suck.

Re: Got an extra carseat? Travel tips?

  • I've used a cheap Costco carseat for air travel and it's awesome- lightweight, fits in a air plane seat easily. It wouldn't be one I'd recommend for everyday use, it's just not nearly as sturdy as our Britax, but I would feel fine with just a trip to the hotel and back.

She's more than welcome to borrow it, MrsRosie has it right now and I don't think they're using it.

  • See if she can borrow a Go Go Kidz to go with the carseat. That thing is a life saver! And maybe a portable DVD player if R watches movies. Make sure she takes lots of snacks to keep her occupied and anticipate it taking more time than normal. Remember that security is the toughest part. Once she gets through that, she's set (for the most part). :-) Good luck!

  • Is DD going to be a lap baby or get her own seat?  I wore DS pretty much the whole trip to Seattle at 1.5.  Luckily he was asleep during most of it.  My suggestion is to try and give her a bottle/cup right as the plane is taking off so that she's sucking on something to prevent the ear pop.  We did that with DS as we were taxing down the runway.  He fell asleep right after he drank his bottle.  The return flight from Salt Lake City he was awake for about 2 hours of it and DH and I just wedged together and let DS pretty much have half a seat to use as a play table area.   The ipad was helpful too.
