3rd Trimester

Repeat C-section Question

Hey ladies!

I am having my second c-scetion next week and was wondering if there are any of you out there that could offer any advice or let me know how your experience was different the second time as far as healing, pain, recovery, etc. I did not have any complications and healed fairly quickly my first time around Big Smile

I appreciate any feedback or comments!

Re: Repeat C-section Question

  • It was pretty much the same.  A little easier at first, then the same.  Had to be really careful not to overdo it the first day home, that seems to be my worst day of recovery.  I feel much better after the 1st week, almost normal after week 2.  I was 100% back to normal a little earlier the 1st time around, probably b/c I just had a baby to take care of and not a toddler too.  The 2nd time, I still felt good after the 2nd week, I just wasn't 100% soreness free until 6 full weeks passed.  The soreness was not debilitating and wasn't very limiting, though.

  • Thanks for your response...I do have a  2 1/2 year old, so I know I will have to be careful having a toddler this time around! Luckily, DH works from home and I have family in town that will be around to help out!

Can't wait - I have a week left until I get to meet my LO!!!!

  • My 2nd recovery was tougher than the first- because I pushed it too hard.  Make sure you let people help, take it easy, and snuggle your 2.5 year old while sitting.  I couldn't say no to picking up my then 18 month old and it made my recovery time longer.

  • Ditto what PP's said. I haven't had my RCS yet (scheduled for 4 weeks from today) but have 2 girlfriends who just had RCS's with 2.5 yo's at home and they said everything that the PP's said. Easier recovery than the first CS if you don't overdo it and if you have people around to help, take full advantage!

  • I've had 2 c/s and will have another one by Friday, 3/9.  I don't recall my recovery being harder with one compared to the other.  Both were pretty easy.  Just had to make sure not to overdo it with my then 18 mo. old when DD#2 was born.  I imagine it's going to be harder this time with two toddlers but I'll have help so hopefully my recovery will go smoothly again.

  • it was easy for me, maybe easier than the first time since I didn't have to go through 37 hours of labor and then have a c-section! Not sure on your hospital's policy, but I would stay as long as you can in the hospital. I was told I could go home after 4 days, but could stay a 5th day, but I wanted to go home. This time, if they ask if I want an extra day, I'm taking them up on it!
