We love the name Trent - but want to go with something longer formally. I love Trenton but get hung up on the spelling. I've toyed with -en but it seems more feminine. What do you think when you hear/see Trenton?
Definately makes me think of a crappy part of New Jersey. That doesn't necessarily make me hate the name though. I think Trenton is fine if you're going to call him Trent for short. I would stick with the ON ending. The EN does seem more feminine and an AN ending just looks wierd.
We have a city named Trenton here in MI also. Its sort of....um, klassy. (the city I mean)
I used to babysit for a little boy by this name, and while I used to give his mom the side eye over it, I've grown to like it. He is such a smart, sweet, handsome, well-rounded kid, that it has changed my mind
Forgot to add: It's sort of hard for me to say. Maybe its the MIchigan accent, but it comes out as Treh-in the way most ppl say it. I have to really think about what I'm saying to make it sound like TreN-Ton.
I think of N.J. as well. Trent is totally acceptable as a stand alone formal name. I briefly (like for .5 sec) considered naming DS Pierson instead of just Pierce. I am so glad I went with Pierce. I think Trent falls in the same category.
It's my little boys name! His name is Trenton Ray. Ray is a family name on both sides so it was important and Trent Ray didn't sound right to us, so we went with Trenton. We never call him Trenton though, just Trent. Love it! We get compliments on his name all the time!

Re: What does Trenton make you think?
I say if you like Trent then just go with Trent.
New Jersey.
I like Trent too and I think it's formal enough by itself.
Yep. Trent is fine, Trenton is a city to me.

Ditto.
I must be the only person that does not think of Trenton, New Jersey; I didn't even know there was a Trenton, New Jersey.
That aside, I love the name Trenton and think it is much better than just Trent as a formal name.

yup.
I think of Fred Armisen's SNL sketch about the blind Gov of NY making fun of New Jersey.
I think Trent on its own is sufficient
It's the capital of New Jersey.

Jersey.
Even aside from that, I think it sounds trendy in an off-putting way.
Be thankful.
This. Aside from that, I think it's a nice name.
... I grew up in Trenton. It's just a normal middle-class town, really.
I am not a fan of the name Trenton, but I think Trent is great on it's own.
Me too!
