So I have started subbing again and my first day was Monday and it went great, the school was very accommodating (they may HAVE to..idk) but I have some questions for y'all.. When I'm finished pumping I do not have access to a sink and soap to wash my pump like I would if I were at home, so do I just rinse? Is that ok? And then for anytime not just at school.. Should I pump right after I feed my son or wait a couple of hours? Just some rookie pumping questions..
Thanks! Have a good day.
Re: started subbing again! a few pumping questions
I only wash my pump parts at night - I rinse them off during the day when I'm at work.
At home, you don't need to pump if you're going to be able to nurse unless you want to increase your supply and start a freezer stash. Then yes, I'd pump as soon after you nurse as possible (you likely won't get much since you just nursed).

I neither rinse nor wash my pump parts at work. I just put them in a Ziplock bag and store them in my freezer bag right along with the milk I just pumped. Then I wash them at night. After all, they just have milk on them! They aren't really "dirty".
As for pumping and nursing, when I was doing that I'd usually wait an hour after nursing try to pump, unless your LO only nurses on one side. Then I'd go ahead and pump the other side right after the nursing session. Right now I only pump at home first thing in the morning before LO wakes up, and I only pump one side so I can nurse him on the other before work.
Good luck to you as you return to work!
I just rinse at work and wash at night. After rinsing I try to dry with a paper towel though because I'm concerned about mold or stale water. The school does have to be accommodating. I pump after feeding, but I have a really low supply as it is, so I'm ever trying to increase it.
Good luck!
I also just store my pump parts in the refrigerator (in a ziplock bag) between pumps at work. I also have these wipes from Medela if I want to give them a "cleaning" and don't have access to soap and water. Then I always wash at night.
I also don't pump at all when I am home now.
