Two Under 2

When do you think I should combine them?

I'm on my way to 3u3. But it'll be a very close to 3u2 (The gap between oldest to youngest will be 26 months)

DS and DD currently sleep separately.  Both 98% of the time STTN. Both have the bedtime routine downstairs and they only split once we get to the top. DD knows enough to either stand outside DS's door or walk to her room. DS is a simple lay down, hit his crib aquarium and leave. DD crawls into bed I hit her seahorse and leave.

We only have a 3 bedroom house, so obviously someone is sharing. We've pretty much decided on DD and DS sharing while the LO goes into a room by his/herself because of the night wakings in a newborn. The rooms are currently set up how they will be (DD's room has a crib in it and we'll just play musical mattresses).

I'm currently torn on when to put the older two together. it seem kind of silly to have a room completely empty for months. On the other hand I don't want them to be 12 and 24 months and suddenly get hit with the novelty of sharing a room.

Re: When do you think I should combine them?

  • If they are mostly SSTN I'd combine them now.   As you said they don't really know better, but as your DD gets older she might not want to "share" a room.  It's fine to wait, but I would leave enough time to combine them, and then wait at least a month before setting up the new baby stuff.  When our kids moved rooms I didn't want to make them feel like they were being replaced. Everything is set up how it will be. The only thing that will change are mattresses. DD sleeps on a twin bed and there is a spare crib in her room no one is using. The baby room will stay the same

  • I'd do it well before your due date, that way they don't know it's happening because of baby! It'll be a normal thing by the time the 3rd arrives.
