2nd Trimester

Chiropractor

I did a search and didn't find anything on this board about going to a chiropractor.  We were in a car accident in October and after I became pregnant, I could no longer take anything for the back pain.  I was told to see a chiropractor.  I am seeing one of the best in my city and I've made them aware I am pregnant.  He says I'm fine seeing him while pregnant.  He even has a massage therapist that works with him in the office who is also trained in pregnancy.

Do any of you have any experience or knowledge about chiropractic care while pregnant?

Re: Chiropractor

  • If you can afford it, take advantage!

My insurance does not cover it or I would be too!

  • I saw one throughout my first pregancy. She was amazing :)

  • I see one to help my pelvis stay aligned. I have an uncommon degree of ligament laxity and my pelvis and lower back do some painful things.  My insurance doesn't cover chiro, so I pay OOP (my chiro has special non-insurance pricing). I have seen both a normal chiro who could treat me and apply his general knowledge and I've seen a chiro who specializes in PG and women's health. The specialist is a whole different world of care. She is amazing. The body moves differently in PG and while nursing, so she takes that into account. Plus, she has a fabulous table/bed for PG moms that automatically reclines and has a belly hole that is so comfortable I could just live there. She also has loads of tips for addressing the ailments of pregnancy naturally, knows how to help baby get in the right position for delivery if he is not (this is called the Webster Technique), etc.
  • Loved going! My insurance covers it. I went due to pulling 4 muscles in my back. It was massage therapy. It was awesome!

  • I also go to a chiropractor for some neck issues as well as to get my pelvis adjusted every other month. I have really noticed a difference since I started going a few months ago!

    This.

I am so glad I'm going. My pelvis has been out of alignment for a few years. I had been going off and on when I could afford it. With my husband's new job it's now covered on our insurance so I have been going weekly. I have noticed a huge difference. I've gone 4 times and already I no longer have hip pain.

  • Thank you, everyone!  My insurance doesn't cover it - but, since we were rear ended, the other driver's car insurance does.  They found I had some chronic nerve impairment causing loss of feeling in my hand, arm, and legs so I also have to see a neurologist.  For now, I'm enjoying better sleep because I don't hurt!  He has been doing the pregnancy adjustments in addition to what he needs to do to unblock some nerves.  This is my first time seeing a chiropractor and I think I'm hooked!

My husband starts going today.  I'm sure he'll be hooked, too.

  • GO NOW!  don't walk, run to the chiropractor & get on a regular schedule.  you'll thank yourself for it

  • It seems that in my family, we don't get morning sickness - we get horrid, unbearable back pain. That being said, throughout my first trimester I had back pain unlike any I've ever experienced - I could barely move. I went to see the chiropractor at my boss' encouragement, and within 3 sessions, my back was...well, 'back' to normal! If you can, try to find a chiro that has one of those new ultrasound machines that target the specific problem area as opposed to a hands-on-crack-the-entire-backchiropractor. I found that it made all the difference in the world.

1 1/2 months later, I've had little to no back pain whatsoever! My aunts are wishing that they had done it during their pregnancies, lol!

    Good luck!

He actually did have the little machine that finds your specific problem areas.  It was really neat!  I thought the pain was somewhere different than the machine said it the problem was.  It's helped him to concentrate what's really out of whack rather than what I THOUGHT was out of whack.  I've gone 4 times this week and go to a 3 times per week schedule starting next week with 2 of the days massages before the adjustment.

  • I have been going to one since before I found out about being pregnant. I still go now about once every 2 weeks. He has this weird table where the middle section goes down to accommodate my growing belly, too. It has been so helpful and I always feel much better and sleep (a little bit) better after going.
