My 3.5 yr old is having trouble sleeping....been going on for months. Ped ordered xray to check adenoids and there was SLIGHT inflamation but he recommends a sleep study.
Any ideas? I have no idea where to start...and I forgot to ask the doctor. Anyone ever take a toddler to a sleep study? What should I expect?
Re: Sleep study for a toddler...where should I go?
Check with your insurance as to where to go and whether you need the doctor referral. Sometimes the sleep center itself is in network, but if you LO needs anything, that is outsourced to another company that may not be in network. it can be a real pain.
Honestly, I would have the adenoids ruled completely out before putting LO through a sleep study. DS had one last year and we felt so bad for him. While it doesn't hurt, it can very difficult and trying for a toddler. As with adults, they are hooked up to a ton of little electrodes around their head and sometimes their chest. It can be very scary for them.
This is a picture of him right after being hooked up. He was about 15 months old. You can see the wires and the wrapping was just to try to help everything stay in place and so it wouldn't try pulling them off. if you have more questions you can page me if you want.
Are you close to CHOP? I'm sure they do sleep studies. I work at a children's hospital and we do sleep studies all the time. I'm with wife 07 with the ENT referral.
