~*~DOR/POF Check-in~*~

This group is open to anyone who has Diminished Ovarian Reserve or Premature Ovarian Failure (sometimes also called Primary Ovarian Insufficiency ? POI).

This check-in will be posted each Wednesday.  If you?d like to be added to this group, please reply to this message, and I?ll make sure to add you for next week.  Welcome to the lurkers!  We know this can be a difficult journey, but we welcome you with open arms.  Let us know if we can answer any questions.

GRADUATES ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO POST!

Status Update: What is going on in your cycle or where are you in your process?

QOTW:  If you?re still working with OE is your RE generally supportive of your efforts?  Does your RE have a cycle number cutoff for trying with your OE?  I get the feeling that my RE will cut me off in the near future even though my insurance will pay for unlimited tries with my OE (none with DE, though).  He's the medical director of the clinic and sometimes I think he's more worried about their stats than my success.  :(

Re: ~*~DOR/POF Check-in~*~

  • Status Update: What is going on in your cycle or where are you in your process? AF showed up today. I have a WTF tomorrow to talk about the last disastrous cycle. I am also having a SIS done on Monday as I "probably" have a polyp that needs to come out. If so, I will do a hysteroscopy and any cycling is on hold until that is done/healed. Unless RE gives me some great reason why I should try again, I am done.

QOTW:  If you?re still working with OE is your RE generally supportive of your efforts?  Does your RE have a cycle number cutoff for trying with your OE? Yes, current RE is totally supportive. He treats DOR ladies all day long.  There is no cycle cutoff but I personally cannot endure this any longer.  Looking into DE if I can convince DH.

GL to anyone cycling and hugs for all that need one.

    SAIF/PAIF Welcome

    http://waitingforraintostop.wordpress.com

  • Many (((hugs))) to richzep and Mrs.McIrish -- you've both been in my thoughts!

jillychris -- More congrats to you!  I hope things are continuing go well!

LOTS of good luck and thoughts going out to mm29, glueck, and ceemonkey!

Status Update:  I'm in the ever frustrating 2ww (beta on 3/7)!  ER was on 2/21 -- they expected to get 3-7 eggs, and ended up with 4.  All 4 were mature, but 1 wasn't viable and 2 didn't fertilize (ICSI).  So our lone embryo, Nemo, was transferred back on 2/24.  Walking a fine line between not getting my hopes too up, yet trying to maintain hope!  PIO injections have been going surprisingly well (no pain), but some of its side effects have been tough (ridiculously tired, insomnia, and sooo hungry!).  Very thankful to still be in the game!

QOTW:  Not really sure since this is the first ER/ET we've made it to.  FX there won't be a WTF appointment to discuss these things!  MH and I have, however, discussed and we've got a personal limit on how many attempts we'll make with my OE.

    TTC since honeymoon in 9/2010
    Me: 39, Dx DOR (FSH = 10.5, AMH = 0.43, best AFC = 10), AMA
MH: 37, Dx Obstructive Azoospermia, multiple successful sperm retrieval procedures

    1/2012: IVF/ICSI #1 Antagonist = cancelled d/t poor response to max stims
    2/2012: IVF/ICSI #2 MDLF (4R, 4M, 1F) = BFP, saw heartbeat, missed m/c 9w0d, D&E
    8/2012: IVF/ICSI #3 EPP/MDLF (7R, 2M, 1F) = BFN

12/2012: (New RE) Operative hysteroscopy to remove scar tissue

    1/2013: IVF/ICSI #4 Low-dose stim/Antagonist (AFC=6); ER=1/26 (5R-couldn't access rt ovary, 5M, 4F), ET=1/29 (trans 3) = BFP!; 2/11 beta#1(13dp3dt)=2127, 2/13=3367; twin girls due 10/19/13

    PAIF/SAIF very welcome!

  • Status Update: After my ER, we found out that 3 made it to freeze. AF came a little early and didn't last very long, but nonetheless, I'm on pills and patches and awaiting start date of PIO. FET tentatively schedule for March 8.

QOTW:  This is my first IVF cycle and my RE seems very positive about our chances despite my hormone issues that resulted in a cancelled ET. I'm trying to take one day at a time now.

    Me: 28, DH: 29
DX: DOR & major hormone imbalances; DH low motility
    4 Clomid cycles + Trigger = BFN
    2 Femara cycles + Trigger + IUI = BFN

  • Status:  At my WTF appt after our failed IVF #1 my RE feels that our cycle went well-we just fell on the wrong side of the odds, and encourages us to try again.

We're changing our protocol from microdose flare to EPP antagonist and will start around april 1, for a april 28thish ER date.  I'm just trying to spend the next month focusing on me and enjoying being "normal" before the insanity starts again!

QOTW: For now my RE is totally supportive of using my own eggs-We retrieved 8, and ended up with good looking embies, so it doesn't seem that we need to consider DE.  If we get to that point, that is probably when treatments will stop.

No, I think my clinic is happy to take my money as long as I can keep sending it their way.

  • ((hugs)) to anyone that needs them, and GL to all those currently cycling!

Status: After my promising start to the cycle, I was blindsided 3 days later with the news that I had already ovulated. That was CD5. The nurse recommended that I go get checked out by my OB-GYN, why, I have no idea. And she said my symptoms are peri-menopausal - um, DUH. I didn't think I wasn't with this high-ass FSH and shorter periods! I'm incredibly frustrated right now - I went to this RE and clinic because of their work with high FSH patients, and I drank the kool-aid when they told me about getting women pregnant that were in menopause. So my question is, why the HELL are you telling me this stuff instead of suggesting to me how to FIX it? I had a total melt-down last Friday. Poor DH. He had to listen to it all. I have scheduled yet ANOTHER call with the RE.

Sorry for my ranting. It just sucks, doesn't it?

QOTW: I work with an out of town RE who is very supportive and will work with me until I quit. My local RE, although he never says anything really - I can tell on his face he thinks my effort is wasted. But they are willing to keep going as long as I am, which is getting less and less with each day.

I think it's very common for some clinics to protect their stats and cherry-pick patients. I also think it's common for a lot of clinics to establish cut-offs because then they feel like they're being more ethical. I think it can be a good and a bad thing.

  • Status Update: What is going on in your cycle or where are you in your process? Still waiting to hear from our RE.  I'm adding in supplements one by one in the mean time.  Any suggestions???

QOTW:  If you?re still working with OE is your RE generally supportive of your efforts?  Does your RE have a cycle number cutoff for trying with your OE?  I get the feeling that my RE will cut me off in the near future even though my insurance will pay for unlimited tries with my OE (none with DE, though).  He's the medical director of the clinic and sometimes I think he's more worried about their stats than my success.  :(   We haven't gotten to that point with the current RE obviously but the first RE we met with totally pushed DE.  She wouldn't even cycle me with OE.  I totally feel like their "stats" were the underlying concern with the clinic!  If you get to that point and you aren't ready yet, or don't want to pay for DE, find another clinic.  IMO, until the eggs stop, there is still a chance!

  • It seems like quite a few hugs need to go around (((hugs))) to you girls!

Nothing new going on here.   I am headed to the lab tomorrow during my lunch break to do some labs for DE.  I am waiting on AF as well so we can start my mock cycle.  I just had an email exchange with the DE coordinator about the girl I love and want to hold.  She said she was going to put her on hold for me because there are 2 other intended parents showing interest in her as well.  I think she misunderstood my email because she put for May in it.  I was told I can not hold her until April or May, so I said for July/Aug cycle.  So, I am trying really hard to not get excited because I think it was a misunderstanding Tongue Tied

QOTW: I had been told from the get go by my previous RE that she thought I was going to need DE.  So, it came as no surprise when I was given the DE speech after this second attempt at IVF.  I knew in my hear that it was time to move.  I could not be happier with my decision (although sometimes a little "what-if" pops through my head, but I think that is only natural).  Every day brings a new acceptance for me.

  • No real update for me; waiting on appts with DE coordinators and reading too much of Dr. Google.

QOTW:  After I had both a low response and crappy egg quality in my first IVF cycle, I was given a pretty hard push towards DE.  My doc would do one more IVF if I insisted, but considered it a waste.  To some extent I can see the argument; and I have been going down the DE path.  But I've been reading about DHEA and other clinics that are more aggressive with the DOR diagnosis, and wondering if my clinic just doesn't have the skills/experience/knowledge to treat me more aggressively.

  • Hugs to everyone who needs them!

Update:  Baseline is Monday, EPP starts Tues!

QOTW:   If you?re still working with OE is your RE generally supportive of your efforts? Does your RE have a cycle number cutoff for trying with your OE?  Local RE's were less than supportive, so I am cycling out-of-state in Vegas at SIRM. I love them, very optimistic. My RE believes as long as I develop eggs he will be able to help us have a baby, since I have age on my side. They do not have a cutoff.

This will be my third and final with my OE, and then we will most likely move to DE.

  • Update:  So far so good for IVF #1!  My RE is "thrilled" with my response.  My s/e from stims have been minimal, but I am definitely a little testy :)  Emotionally, I try to stay cynical, because its easier to just stay there rather than deal with the rollercoaster ups and downs, but as of today I am feeling hopeful that this may actually work.  If not on this cycle, then on a future one.

QOTW: RE has not had the DE talk yet, as its our first IVF.  DH and I have talked about it and we aren't sure how we feel about it.  I think its one of those things we have to evaluate once my OE are off the table.  I have no idea if we will ever get cut off by our clinic, but I am sure we will reach our personal limit long before that point.

    Me: 31 DH: 30
Dx DOR (AMH .49), Stage 3/4 Endo, Septate Uterus
After 2 years, numerous tests, abdonimal surgery, and 2 IVF cycles, we are so grateful to be expecting.
    Transferred 2 "perfect" 8-cell embies 6/12. Beta 1 6/25: 472! Beta 2 6/27: 1055!
First u/s shows TRIPLETS! WHAT?!?! Both embies stuck and one split. OMG

Status Update: What is going on in your cycle or where are you in your process?

((hugs)) to anyone that needs them, and GL to all those currently cycling!

WTF? Why would they be sending you back to your OB?  What would your OB be able to do for you that they cannot?  That's why you went to them in the first place.  Ugh. Maybe its the stims, but I'm pissed off for you.

  • Status Update: What is going on in your cycle or where are you in your process? I'm continuing to do acupuncture to gear up for our last cycle, and it's approaching sooner than I thought.  The office shifted dates a bit, but I think we'll be looking at late May stims/early June retrieval.  I'm not 100% positive I want to do this because my beta would fall shortly before DH's 30th birthday.  I would love nothing more than to celebrate with a BFP, but I don't want to scar him if our last cycle is a BFN.  Tough choices.

:(Surprisingly, my RE has never pushed DE on me.  He definitely won't guarantee success with my OE, but he's willing to try.  DH is not on board with donor anything, though, so this is truly the end of the road for us with the clinic if things don't work.

Status Update: Got first AF after miscarriage and have scheduled the saline ultrasound to check for scarring. I found out that post-miscarriage I've got messed up hormone levels. My dose of thyroid medication is oversuppressing me and lowering didn't help after 3 weeks! and now my prolactin is higher than ever. Aargh. I might have to see a general endocrinologist. Good thing we decided to wait until May for our second IVF so there is plenty of time to resolve these issues.

To whomever asked the question - that's terrible. If you (or your insurance company) are willing to spend the money, they should give you a shot.

As for me. DE have been mentioned, but mainly as an option in case "we wanted a baby now" (Though that's a particularly odd statement for us in that this clinic's success rates  with DE are only 50-60% and probably most aren't dealing with MFI which most likely has an impact). The clinic I go to has a good success rate with older women and DOR especially. It could be because of turning people away, but it also could be because most of their clients are OOP and not a lot of couples have money to spend on cycles that have a low probability of success.

I wonder if turning couples away with OE is more of an issue in areas where a high percentage of patients have insurance coverage for IVF?

Status update: 4th beta dropped significantly last Wednesday. It went from 116 to 63. Doctor confirmed that it was a chemical pregnancy. Can't believe it took me this long to get pregnant (and this much money) only to end in a miscarriage.

This is pretty much how DH and I feel. We got (only) a little further than you and and when we found out, we were in complete shock (as in couldn't eat) for days.

    ((Hugs))

Nemo self-selected himself! I am very hopeful for you.
