What age is safe for jogging stroller?

Are babies really supposed to be 6 months to go in the jogging stroller? With DS#1 I had a single jogging stroller. With the tray attached I could put him in his car seat in the jogger and we'd go running together, starting at about 6 weeks old. After he got to be about 3-4 months, I ditched the infant seat and just laid him down reclined in the seat. Now, I have 9 week old twins and I want to get out there and jog, but their infant seats don't attach to the double jogger, so I planned on just laying them in the reclined seats. But I read online recently that they should be 6 months old before you use the jogging stroller. Is that right? I didn't know this with my DS and he is just fine. Thoughts?

  • Our pediatrician said 6 months without a carseat. I also ran with the car seat adapter and personally wouldnt risk it before 6 months if I didnt have one. Talk to your pediatrician, they know where your babies are at development wise...

  • It depends on your stroller. Check the manufacturer's website for the recommendation. I have the BOB revolution and the recommendation is 8 months to use it without the infant seat.

  • Ive been using mine without the infant seat since LO was about 4 months old and shes seemed happy enough to me, with enough blankets and tightened straps I dont see a problem.

  • You should never jog with an infant before 6mos, regardless of your stroller. It has to do with muscle strength and their ability to absorb vibration and increased impact. You can walk/stroll your infant in the carseat right away or in the stroller seat from whatever age the stroller manual says (which is based on the recline degree).
  • I started jogging with both kids at a young age. Both were in their car seat with the stroller adapter until about 8 months old. We stayed on smooth paths and they were buckled in, which really isn't any more rough of a ride (or worse for their neck/back muscles) than a drive in the car.

It's better to wait until the twins have stable neck control. Considering that newborns are fragile, and vulnerable to any sudden and shocking movement. After all, it's for your babies' safety.
