I think letting the kid in the front seat with the car in motion is much worse than letting the kid "steer". Even if the child is strapped in the Dad is taking a huge risk. If for some reason the air bag ever went off, the child would be killed instantly.

It's funny - I was actually just thinking about this exact thing. And, yes, I agree that the biggest difference between allowing kids to 'steer' today vs 30 ish years ago is the air bag. And, I will concede that in a parking lot you're more likely to hit something that would potentially cause the air bag to go off. This was something I actually hadn't considered.

No. I was driving and my mom was holding him. He was not driving the car. Also, no children were walking in the vicinity.
