Parenting after a Loss

FTM: How many...

Hi Ladies!  With just a few weeks to go before LO is here, I'm organizing and not sure if I have enough--  I have 6 crib sheets and 2 changing pad covers.  Some people are telling me to get more, others are saying I have plenty.

How many crib sheets would you recommend?

What about changing pad covers?

Re: FTM: How many...

  • I think you are fine with the crib sheets, we make due with three but three more would be helpful.

I would get more changing pad covers. I think we rotate the 5 we have very frequently.

Sidenote: We do ALL diaper changes at our house on the changing table, if you plan to change the diaper where ever you are in the house when it needs to be changed 2 would probably be plenty.

  • I have 2 crib sheets and 1 changing pad cover.  When DS was super tiny I would put a receiving blanket on the changing pad cover, but now I don't worry about it.  It sounds like you have more than enough.

  • I think you definitely have enough.  We have 3 crib sheets and one changing pad cover.  I would put a receiving blanket over the changing pad cover when DD was really little.

  • Eeeeek! I am so excited to see you posting over here! I can't believe you'll be over here in a few weeks!

anyways to answer your question- we have two changing pad covers and three sheets I think. L doesn't leak or spit up in the crib so we are good with 3 (or maybe two) sheets. On the changing pad we put those disposable liner sheet in case she were to make a mess. So two changing pad covers works good for us.

    I think you have enough!

  • We have four of each.  My child is Vomitron, so we have actually made it to the last set before in one day/night. I also recommend many swaddles if you have a puker/super pooper/magic out of diaper pee king/sweaty kid like me.  We ran through four swaddle blankets in one night during the early days.  I did a lot of laundry early on - a load a day for the first few weeks.

I recommend you "lasagna" your sheets - sheet, waterproof mattress pad, sheet, waterproof mattress pad, sheet.  We only need two pads on ours as our mattress is covered in plastic.  Our crib fits a max of three sheets this way.  We've peeled down to the last set in a night and it's so much easier to just peel off a sheet than to put one on at 4am when you've had no sleep.

  • We haven't used the crib yet but we have 6 sheets and 1 changing pad cover.  I tend to throw a recieving blanket under him to catch accidents mainly b/c it is easier to fling it up over his wee wee to avoid getting hit if he starts to go Stick out tongue

  • Thanks ladies!  I think we'll keep what we have and we can always get more once LO is here!

  • We have 3 sheets and I only ever just used the second one because I have two different styles and was tired of the first.

We have one changing pad cover. When it gets dirty we just go without until I wash it. I actually prefer not to use it. The changing pad is much easier to clean then having to wash the covers all the time.

  • We loved the Carter's waterproof pads to put on the changing pad, in the crib, on surfaces when at others homes, etc.  Just have to wash the pads.

  • How many crib sheets would you recommend?  We have two sets and its been plenty.  Definitely do the lasagna thing mentioned.

What about changing pad covers? We have two and I wish we had three.  When they are itty bitty I'd also recommend one of the waterproof pads to put under their nether regions.  If they sprinkle a receiving blanket won't keep the changing pad dry, that will.  Its way easier to toss that pad in the wash than deal with changing the whole cover out.

This exactly. I don't use the Carter's pads but something like it.  I only have two crib sheets and two changing pad covers.  DD likes to pee while I change her so the waterproof pad keeps me from having to wash the changing pad cover all of the time.

  • We have 3 crib sheets and only 2 changing pad covers and find that that is plenty.  But we also just change LO wherever we are in the house.  Her nursery is upstairs and most of our days are spent downstairs so we have a little changing area in her pack-n-play that we use.  As for the crib sheets... have you thought about some sheet savers?  Those have saved us LOADS of time and hassle.  When she spits up at night I can just take off the sheet saver and don't have to change the sheet everyday.

  • We have 2, but Lucas hasn't slept in his crib over night yet. He sleeps in his pnp in our room still.

I wish I would have had 2 or more changing pad covers. Early on, I was peed on several times and had to lay a towel on the changing pad because the cover was still in the wash.

  • I think what you have sounds good.  We have two changing pad covers and when we use the waterproof pads with them, they are perfectly fine.  It he pees, it usually goes on the waterproof part and we just leave the changing pad cover until it actually gets dirty.  Sheets I have no idea on as he is still sleeping in his RnP at night.
