NBR: The Office

I used to love The Office. When I found out that Steve Carell was leaving, I was sad, but I thought maybe the ensemble cast could pull it off. Then James Spader joined, who I've disliked since he wrecked The Practice. But for me, the final straw was the way they totally ignored the birth of Pam's second baby. Yeah, maybe it's because I'm pregnant, but I felt the writing was so lazy - especially since they had an hour special with the birth of the first baby.

Now I'm watching reruns and the differences are striking. I feel bad about not watching the new ones, but each episode is less funny than the last. Anyone else with me?

I still get some good laughs from it, but not nearly as much as before! DH and I continue to watch it every week even though I am extremely disappointed that it's just not the same without Steve Carrell! =(

I absolutely love The Office. I'm so upset that it is so different after Steve Carell left.  I'm still watching the new episodes, but honestly, if they don't improve soon, I can see the end of The Office very soon.

Yeah, DH and I still watch it and get some laughs, but Parks and Recreation is by far the best show in production right now. 30 Rock is a close second :)

Yes, I love 30 Rock too! I'm behind on the most recent season, I like that one better than Parks and Rec, but I love that one too! So sad to see The Office deteriorate like this =(

I think they "ignored" Pam's second baby because it wasn't really written for the script. Jenna Fischer was actually pregnant so they had to have Pam be pregnant. I still love the new Office, but I miss Steve Carell.

I don't think the turn happened when Steve Carell left, it was starting to go down a little before that, but definitely has lacked a lot more since then.

It felt like the "old" Office again last week when Jim pranked Dwight in the hotel room.  That was classic Office IMO.  Those moments are so rare now and the comedy seems forced at times.  It still has laughable moments, but it is nothing compared to the reruns.  We were watching the rerun of "Safety Training" last night and I had forgotten how good it was.
