Parker Brynn's Arrival...Long

This post is a little late, but things have been busy adjusting to life with a newborn, recovering from a c-section and working from home!

Parker was to arrive via scheduled c-section on 2/10/12, her exact due date.  I was not thrilled about the idea of a c-section, but I had not dialated and she was not descending which made me not induceable and my OB was fairly certain that due to her size she would not fit through the birth canal.

The night before DH and I went to dinner, I cried and was very hormonal.  I still felt like we weren't ready and I was really nervous about being cut open.  We got home and finished getting some things ready for the morning before we settled down on the couch for some snuggles.  Well, of course, I had to get up to pee.  On my way to the bathroom I felt very dizzy.  I thought I had got up too fast and went back to my spot on the couch...a little unsteadily.  I laid back down and the dizziness would not go away, in fact it got worse.  So bad I asked DH to mute the TV and then asked him to help me back to the bathroom.  I stood at the sink and rinsed my face and got a sip of water, but the dizziness continued and my head began to pound.  Then without warning I began to heave and vomit, though I did not feel nauseated.

I told DH something was wrong and he called the OB...the on call OB told us to go ahead and come in to the hospital to see what was going on and be monitored.  It took me two hours to even get off of the floor and if I opened my eyes the room swam.  I talked hubby through the last minute packing I intended to do in the morning after I primped.  We made the treck from the bathroom to the front door, but I had to stop to vomit again in the kitchen.  Two hours and a half hours after we called at 12:30 am, we were on our way to the hospital.  I intended to video a little interview of last minute thoughts on our way, but I was to ill to do anything but try not to hurl and hubby was calling our parents.

We got to the hospital and I was admitted to L&D for monitoring.  My BP was elevated, but coming down and I was given zofran and hooked up to an IV and fetal monitor.  By that time I was having waves of nausea and I begged the nurse to let me brush my teeth and have a few sips of water...she was so sweet and obliged.  Turns out my nausea was corresponding with some contractions, but I could not feel them.  I continued to feel nauseated, while hubby got some sleep.  It finally got to be too much and I asked for more medicine...phenergin this time...and I got about an hour of sleep before they began prepping me for my c-section.

I was nervous, but too exhausted to cry as I said good bye to my hubby and recieved my epidural and was set up on the table.  I felt nauseated again and the anesthesiologist gave me something that cleared it up in about 30 seconds.  I was numb very quickly, they checked to make sure, hubby came in and the surgery began.

I heard a suctioning like a vaccum and began to feel like my insides were being sucked out, but not in a painful way.  They told DH to stand up and see if he wanted.  At 8:59 am, I heard the most beautiful sound of my baby crying.  I asked if she was still a girl, they said yes, but did not hold her up for me to see.  They wisked her away very quickly and DH went with her.  A bit later he came back with a few pictures and told me that she had a BM while she was still inside and had aspirated it so she was being seen by a neonatologist right away.  But he said, she isn't huge...only 7lb 6oz and 19.75 inches.  A few minutes later, he brought her to me, she was beautiful and was making the most pitiful pouty face with her lips.  We had a few minutes before he went with her to wait for me in the PACU.  The doctor finished sewing me up.  I told him I didn't feel skinny yet, he said that I would soon.  He didn't reply when I asked him if the baby shrank (at 35 weeks they estimated her size at 7lb 14 oz).  However, it turned out for the best since she aspirated her meconium and even her fingernails were stained...she probably would have been a c-section baby anyway.

Once I arrived at the PACU, we waited to see our baby girl and agreed that her name should indeed be Parker.  After some bonding, skin to skin and an attempt to nurse she was taken to the transition nursery (for about 4 hours...the longest of my life) and I went to recovery.  Apparently, during my stay in the PACU the first thing I said to DH was whether he was ready to do this again...I don't remember that!

Thanks for reading this novel of a post, but I want to save it for my blog and for her baby book as well and didn't want to have to write several versions.

We are so happy to have our little Miss Parker Brynn here!
