L is just above average height/weight for his age. He is in gymboree shirts size 2T, otherwise they look too short. Pants he fits the length for 18-24 months, but they are too tight in the waist for his cloth diapers, so I have to go up a size and roll them up. For their body suits, again his cloth diaper skews the size and he would have to wear a 3T. I think they have a size chart with inches for height/waist/hips/head. So you could try that.
I think Gymboree runs big. My DD will be 4 in May. This spring, she will be wearing 2 pairs of capris that still fit in the waist (elastic) and finally fit properly in the length, that are a 2T. TWO!!! She is about 36 inches tall and 31 lbs.
My DS turned 2 a couple weeks ago and is still in 18-24 month tops. He is just moving into 18-24 month pants and can still wear a few 12-18 size. I will probably begin moving him into 2T tops soon because of length.
In my personal experience, the pants are extremely long and the tops run short and wide.
It's all a crapshoot LOL.
