Night time routine.

Do me a favor and tell me what your night time routine is. DH is back to work as of last week (dislike) and I am now spending four nights a week alone and days too since he works graves and sleeps during the day.  I'm having a hard time finding a grove of something that works for us. She has had a few nights of inconsolable crying and I'm at a loss of what to do for her. Gripe water, white noise, warm bath, comfort nursing, etc, nothing seems to help and it is defiantly wearing on a person, not to mention that I hate seeing her like that.

Re: Night time routine.

  • We don't have one but I wanted to tell you that it's amazing you are handling all that on your own bc there is no way I could.

  • DH gets home between 6-6:30PM during the week and we eat dinner soon after. Between 7-7:30PM we try to give Audra her bath. Afterwards I will feed her and try to get her to sleep. Our idea is try and have her asleep upstairs in her crib by 8-8:30PM at the latest. It worked the first week home and the past 2 weeks she was horrible. She too would be so fussy. She would want to cluster feed and wouldn't sleep unless she was on one of our chests. She hadn't slept in her crib for the past 2 weeks though. Last night a miracle happened and she slept all night in the crib and woke up to eat every 3 hours. She didn't come into our bed once. We did the same thing again tonight and she woke up after 15 minutes but MH rocked her back to sleep and she has been in the crib for 10 minutes since then and I'm looking at her on our video monitor and she looks like she's pretty asleep. ::fingers crossed::

I hope you find a routine that works for you soon!

  • I can't imagine handling nights on my own. Audrey is 6 weeks tomorrow, and we are just now finding a bit of a routine.

DH gets home between 5:30 and 6, and we eat dinner shortly after (not excited once the freezer meals run out). Either before or after dinner, Audrey is ready for a bottle. Usually she's awake for at least an hour after this and then naps for about an hour.

After 8 pm is when we struggle. Her fussy time happens sometime between 8 pm and 1 am. Sometimes it's only for 30 minutes, other times several hours. She usually does some cluster feeding and we use gripe water in her 2 of her nighttime bottles. We've also started using a night time lotion on her. Sometimes she likes to be put in her swing at night, other times she isn't happy unless she is being held.

DH does any feeding/diaper duty that happens between 8 pm and midnight. I take on anything that happens later than that. On the weekends, we reverse this. Not sure what are system will be once I go back to work.

  • I'm sorry you are having a difficult time :( Our LO fell into hs own routine. He's up around 730-8 until about 930-10. In this time we do bathtime, and tummytime/play mat time. Then I will feed him to get him sleepy and if that doesnt work I will lay him on my chest which almoat always put him to sleep. A last ditch effort I put him in his vibrating bouncy seat until he falls asleep because he loves the vibratons. Also, for what its worh, my baby's favorite sleepy noise is crickets, like nightime outside cricket noise.

  • From the beginning we got our lo on a schedule we wanted and worked at it everyday, keeping him up longer and longer during the day and being sure he stuck to his feedings. He now is feeding every four hours and sleeps now for five hours at a time. We always make sure he takes his last feeding by 1130-midnight and change him and swaddle him then lay him in his bassinet till he falls asleep on his own and so far that's what we have done every night. it sounds like your dh has the same schedule as my dh, quirks from 5 pm to 7 am for four days on then off for four days then back to work, but if you find something your lo likes and is something that works for her then do it and be sure to keep up with it. Also we have never let our lo sleep in his swing either, our pedi told us that would start a bad habit.
