Stay at Home Moms

Is everyone going to scream if I ask ONE more question?

Hadley's fever broke (YAY!) in the middle of the night, hasn't had one all day. I'm fairly certain she is teething pretty bad, I just don't know! I try to look at her gums and they don't look terrible, maybe the top ones look a tad bit swollen? She won't chew on anything today whereas she normally chews on anything and everything she can reach, she won't chew on my finger, teethers (frozen too) or anything.

Anyways, my new concern is she doesn't want to eat or drink... as soon as she sees a bottle or cup coming towards her she starts batting at it and fussing, she just doesn't want it at all. I have worried about it all day, tried and attempted all day. She's ate okay, veggies for breakfast & lunch and gave her an extra container mid day... she isn't crazy about eating them but I keep her distracted and she will eat it. I think she's had 9 ounces of formula all day.

I KNOW they need to stay hydrated, but how much is enough to keep them going? As long as she is still having wet diapers should I relax? She has had less than 1/2 her normal formula intake today...

H is being a uber jerk today, my aunt died today and Hadley has been a mess... all I want to do is cry, and the stubborn thing won't just drink her bottle.  If you're reading this... thank you and any words of wisdom are great.

  • I don't have any advice for you, but I am sorry you are having a rough day. ((hugs))

  • I'm sorry about your aunt. I don't know if there is a certain amount they have to have but I think if she's eating and output (diapers) are normal I wouldn't worry too much sice its just the first day. I remember days DS would hardly have anything it seemed like. Will she suck on a wet washcloth at all?

  • My ped always says as long as they are having 2-3 wet diapers a day, you don't need to be worried.

  • I think as long as she is having wet diapers I wouldn't worry too much.  I think it is good you are trying to get her to eat more on top of it.  It sounds like a bug to me, hope it passes soon!
  • Thanks guys... I TRULY hated to ask any more questions, I KNOW that it's not life threatening... it's just been the most stressful day for me in a long long time, and I needed reassurance. She is sleeping now and I think that'll do wonders.

About my aunt, she was only 54 years old and they found her in the tub last night. It is a hard/long story but she wasn't the closest to my family (don't know if anyone remembered my very long story about the cousin I have been helping for so long... it's her mom) anyways, now it's hard b/c everyone feels guilty that we hadn't been around more. Anyways... just a long day. But thanks again and again.

  • I'm sorry, Hope. Thats a lot.
  • Oh how awful! I'm sorry about your aunt and your terrible day! Hopefully Hadley will feel better when she wakes up.  If she's wetting diapers and her fever is gone she should be ok. Keep an eye on her to see if maybe it's her ears, like pp said. Also, I know she's little, but a sippy cup or medicine dropper- even spooning her formula may help if she does need more fluids. The sucking may be what's bothering her.

  • Wet diapers are all that matter.  Does she look pale?  Are her eyes sunken or dark?  If she looks like her normal self then don't worry about how much formula she's taking.

You can also give her a wet washcloth (I usually just run it under cold water and ring it out likely).  This way when she chews/sucks on it she'll get some of the water out of it and it will also help hydrate.

To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew
