Our sweet little boy is here! We induced at a week past my due date and I couldn't be happier about how it turned out.
My SO and I went in the night of the 16th to have my Cervidil placed. I was having contractions already, but they weren't painful. After about an hour of having the Cervidil in, I started to feel them. I had turned down the sleeping pill they offered, but around 3am started to regret that decision and ended up getting NO sleep. The Cervidil nudged along my contractions and I went from 1cm to 2cm over the course of the night. They let me take it out at around 7am and I took a shower. The shower would have felt GLORIOUS with my contractions if the damn thing hadn't kept going from hot to cold to hot to cold... Ohhh well.
They started the pit at around 8:30 and my ob came over from his office to break my water. I labored on my own until 5cm when they asked if I was ready for my epi (why, yes! yes, I was!). The worst part of the epi was sitting still. I wanted to flinch when he touched me. All in all, though, it wasn't very painful at all and I am soooo glad that I ended up getting it when I did. About 10 or 15 minutes later I was totally pain-free, but not loopy, and I could still feel every thing and move my legs. I tried to take a nap, but I was too excited. I rested for the next 4 hours, when nurses started to come in to flip me from side to side. I asked if he was starting to decel and the nurse tried not to look worried when she said, "Well.. yes." At this point I was starting to panic a little, worrying about Max and thinking that this might lead to a c-section. So she decided to check me. When she did, her eyes got big and she said, "are you not feeling any pressure?!?" I was feeling a little bit, but not the urge to push just yet. Turns out that I was +2 already! Yay!
They let me labor down for another 45 minutes while they got prepped and called my ob to let him know. I was concerned that I would be too numb and not be able to feel when to push, but once I got into it, I could feel my contractions really well.. they just weren't painful.
I ended up pushing for a good 1 and a half+. Yes, I pooped on the table. I noticed one of the nurses cleaning it up and so I cracked a joke about how that meant that I was pushing right, right?! My SO gave me a weak smile at that one and a thumbs up. hahaha... oh well. It made ME feel better to clear that elephant.
My epi was awesome and I could still feel Max come out, which was the neatest feeling. I really wouldn't liken it to a bowel movement, it felt very distinct to me. I ended up with a 3rd degree tear, but my recovery has been AMAZING and my stitches haven't bothered me at all.
I feel so, so, so lucky to have had an easy delivery and to have gotten a beautiful boy out of it. My SO was fantastic through my whole delivery and is a great dad already. I have such an easy baby and a great little family. Also, I was one of those who was feeling a little weirded out about BF, but decided that I would try it for him anyway.
I LOVE IT. Don't get me wrong, it's super painful right now and I ended up scabbing over from some faulty latches. But I love the bonding time with him, so it's worth the pain.
Edit: I forgot to say that we don't really know his birth weight. They originally said that he was 6lbs 5oz, but when they weighed him before our discharge, he was 7lbs 7oz! They concluded that the scale they used in L&D was off (like, a lb and a half?! wth?) and so we don't really know what he was born at. He was 20 in, though!
