So on Friday we saw ENT to look at A's tongue to make sure it wasn't tied (it's not). He has been squeaky since he was born, so much so that we call him Squeaker and he put on quite a show for the doc in the office. He had also been really gaggy with the preemie nipple on Thursday night's feeds. She was concerned about this and put a camera down his nose to look at his throat. She diagnosed him with mild laryngomalacia (floppy vocal cords) and wants him to have a swallow study done tomorrow morning. Well, he had his regular weight check on Friday afternoon and had gained 10 3/4 oz between Monday and Friday and his pedi has no idea why the ENT wants him to have a swallow eval as he obviously has had no real issues with swallowing since he gained so well. He's had almost no gagginess this weekend, and if so its totally positional to how he's being held when being fed. I am also not really sure what the point of the swallow study is, his laryngomalacia is so mild that its likely nothing will be done about it, just to know that he has it so when he gets sick he might have more of a difficulty breathing than a child who doesn't have it and most kids outgrow it by the time they are 2. Would you still take him to have to study done? I'm concerned about taking him back to the hospital and exposing him to all the germs in radiology if there is no point to having it done.

Re: Would you go?
I wouldn't personally. I'd give it a few more weeks to see how Aiden does with feedings. Some babies just take a little longer to figure out the suck/swallow/ breathe concept.
