D.C. Area Babies

Cloth diaper stores in this area?

I checked out the cloth diapering forum and someone suggested checking them out at a store first. I've looked at BRU and Buy Buy Baby and they don't have them. Anyone in this area know of a store that has them? Otherwise any suggestions on which brands you use would be helpful!

 Thanks!

  • Abby's Lane is in Old Town Manassas is a CD store, not sure how close that is to you.

Certain brands will fit better or worse depending on how your LO is shaped. For a while I could only get FuzziBunz OneSize to fit my skinny minny. But now I can get BumGenius on her. I love the Elementals. My Blueberries might be my favorite but I've also fallen in love with the AI2's from BuBuBeBe. I just bought another Kissaluv's AIO, and I kind of wish I had more of them, but I have no right to be buying any more diapers right now....

  • Oh and for the newborn stage I loved the Kissaluv's 0 with Bummis Super Whisper Wrap cover. Also L'il Joey AIO although they are pricey.

  • I did one of the Cloth 101 sessions at Abby's Lane - I'm not sure how frequently they have them, but I think it's monthly. VERY helpful for understanding the options, as there are many.

Then, when we decided to bite the bullet, we did the cloth diaper trial from Jillian's Drawers - the newborn one since our little one just arrived.

We surprised ourselves and liked the prefolds: they are little workhorses and really aren't much more work compared to the others (pockets still have to be stuffed, etc.). And very affordable. :-)

EDD 2/29/12. We'll see if he's actually a Leap Day baby!
  • Greenberries in Columbia, MD also has cloth diapering classes.

  • Another vote for Abby's Lane. They really are a wonderful store in terms of selection, way they run (working moms who can bring in their kids), information, helping the community (they use their play room for LLL meetings, storytime, etc.), and they offer baby registry.

The employees all know their stuff and the owner has a great blog: https://thecloththatcounts.wordpress.com/.

In terms of what we like: we like just about everything. We are totally fine with the cheap options: prefolds and flats + a cover. The ever-popular Bum Genuis are our least favorite. For the newborn stage, we adored Kissaluv 0s with Thirsties Duo covers, size 1. We have a mix of new diapers from Abby's Lane and used ones purchased from CL and the Diaper Swappers website.

  • Wow! Thanks everyone! your responses have been SOOOOO helpful :) I'll have to make a trip out to Abby's lane first and then I might take advantage of the trail on the website someone else mentioned.
  • Abby's Lane is having a diaper swap this weekend - a great chance to pick up some used diapers cheaply!
