Cloth Diapering

Newborn prefolds

I just ordered a bunch of prefolds and covers from GMD.  I meant to order 2 dozen newborn size prefolds and 2 dozen small size prefolds.  Instead I goofed and ordered 3 dozen newborn size and 1 dozen small.  I was thinking about returning one of the newborn and exchanging it for a small but now I am thinking maybe I should just keep all 3 dozen and just order more small sizes?  Would that be too many diapers for the newborn stage?  I plan to wash every other day.

Re: Newborn prefolds

  • 3 dozen is more than you NEED for the newborn stage, but you can always use them as doublers etc later. We use our prefolds interchangeably and just fold down to fit. I'd say do what your budget allows, but more prefolds is never a bad thing (except possibly financially). You can also use them as burp cloths etc.

  • It never hurts to have that extra dozen prefolds.  DS ended up being a frequent wetter during growth spurts, so we had to order another dozen (we already had 24 newborn prefolds).  You'll definately get use out of the newborn prefolds.  DS is coming up on a month old soon, and it's looking like we will probably still be able to wrap the prefolds around him for another few weeks even though he was on the bigger side (8lb 7oz at birth).

  • I skipped newborn diapers entirely and just bought 30 smalls from OxoCozy and Bummies. It was never a problem.
  • I would just keep what you have & order another set of smalls. But that's just me.
