WWYD? Should I say something or not?

I belong to another message board w/ a great group of girls. One of them does alphabet things - like letters and such  - for baby's room. I asked her if she would be willing to make a canvas monogram for me. I got one for DD1 and they are beautiful (and the girl who did them was taking time off from doing them, so i couldn't get them for DD2). I sent this girl pictures of DD1's, the bedding, colors, etc.

So she did them for me .............. and they are not cute. I honestly think my 8 year old niece could have done better. it just looks so childish and unprofessional.

Of course, I didn't want to hurt her feelings so I told her they were cute, and asked how much I owed her. She said $40 (which is even more than the other person charged me).

I haven't mailed it out yet (I told her I would do it on Monday) ... but part of me thinks, should I be honest and tell her that i don't love them? & another big part of me says that I can't hurt her feelings, and she did buy the materials and stuff.

WWYD? Should I suck it up and pay full price, or offer to pay for the materials and stuff but kindly say (and how?) that I'm not a fan?

To be honest w/ you - I will not hang these in DD's bedroom. They are just not nice ...

  • That is a tough situation! Does she have an Etsy site or business or did she do it as a friend? How good of a friend is she? Do you talk IRL? I think all of these would come into play for me. But I am so nonconfrontational, to a fault, that I probably would pay and just not use them. I'm not saying its the right thing to do though!

  • Well, you already declared that they are cute and asked for a price. I would just take the hit, but I am a bit of a pushover. Still, it sounds like you already committed.

  • She's not an IRL friend, but everyone from that message board are all pretty loyal to each other.

I was thinking too that I should take the hit b/c I already told her they are cute ... but I just hate wasting money like that.

At any rate, it's probably the right thing to do for her sake. I don't want to screw her over.

  • Since $40 isn't a ton of money I'd probably still pay her the full price but be honest about the fact that you don't love them. You'd be doing her a favor in the long run.
