I didn't ask for or expect anything with DS, but DH got me a necklace with the baby's birthstone that he gave me at the hospital. When we got home he also had a huge basket waiting for me with all the stuff I could not have while pregnant: wine, chocolate (I had GD), and other treats, there was also a gift card for a massage. That was a pretty freakin awesome present.
I did tell him this time I would like some wine and cadbury eggs (GD again), LOL.
Mmmm cadbury eggs.... I have GD too! I asked for rainbow (seven layer) cookies :-)
I had never heard of them until being on here. I do have presents purchased for both DH and DD. DH and DD are both getting some new clothes for their hospital stay. And DD is getting a Tiffany's Key necklace. It is a little much, but it will come with a card that says "You will always hold a key to our hearts". She is 10 and is worried that we will forget about her when baby is here. (tons of her friends have told her that will happen). So that is the big gift DH and I are splurging on. I figure it will be a gift that she will always hold dear to her heart.
With my son my husband gave me an early push present, a watch, a few months before..... But then felt bad so I also got a nice diamond necklace about a month post partum (when dh got his raise and bonus). IMO it is not a necessary gift, after suffering multiple pregnancy losses our child will be a present enough, and quite frankly I would love us to use the money to keep me out of work a bit longer if possible. We have never been big present people, just like to surprise each other when we are fortunate enough to have extra funds available, I doubt I will get a push present this time and won't be disappointed if I don't get one

I didn't get one with DS1, and when I told my husband that I was kind of hurt that he didn't get me one (since all my friends kept asking what he got me) he told me that since my induction ended in a c-section and I didn't actually push, that I didn't deserve a push present. Needless to say I was really offended by that. I had really wanted a baby birthstone necklace. Didn't get it for my first mother's day either. I don't suppose I will get anything for this baby either.
And this is the one reason why I would think that push presents are not a good idea - they let men show what jackazzes they are. Buy the present for yourself, seriously. You can still use it to commemorate the baby.
Loribelle- I am so sorry! That's a horrible thing for him to say! That would have hurt my feelings so much... not forgivable. I agree with Loolaide... buy your own gift!! And if he asks, tell him that since you endured pregnancy, SURGERY to deliver your collective child, and his azzhole attitude, you deserve something.
Tell him it's that or a tattoo.

Please don't talk about Cadbury eggs.... you have no idea how disheartening it is to a Brit to go buy Cadburys..only to find out it's the Hersheys version I always check the labels or the box before buying them now.. and will only get the Hershey version when I am desperate.
Canadians get the real deal usually.. and if you have a world market or central market you can get the real deal, most indian grocery stores carry the real Cadburys, even Kroger and Tom thumb have a small selection.... but you pay for it .. I am so due a chocolate spree
I haven't had a Fry's Turkish Delight in for ages
BTW as an FYI... if you go to a place selling Brit Chocolate.. the Mars and Milky Way are the opposite from the ones you get in the US....
DH has already sent one for me. I totally wasn't expecting anything, but I think it was an extremely kind gesture. I can't wait to open it. I'd never heard of them until an old classmate of mine was flashing hers, a big old gaudy ring, on FB. I think if one is offered, it's nice, but it certainy should not be demanded. And, I also hate the term push present. I think it cheapens the whole experience and gesture.
