can you have gas during contractions?

I have been having severe back pain today and menstrual like cramping for the past couple hours, but I have also had gas. Is there ANY chance this could be contractions or is it just gas? I have a feeling it might just be wishful thinking on my part that it is contractions, but OH MY WORD it hurts!

I was thinking of asking a similar question. Hopefully you will find the answer you need. I've been having strong, sharp cramping today and quite a bit of back pain. I've had maybe a little bit of gas today but I've been known to have this "cramping" with gas. I'm just going to go with the theory that when the cramps are timeable and close enough together, that's when it will be labor.

I would time them. If they are regular and coming frequently it could be the real deal!

YES. I had gas when I was in labor Wednedsay... it was part of the reason I was doubting being in labor. I, um, even farted during a cervical check in the hospital. :

an OB told me gas can also cause contractions

Thats good to know! To the OP I'm totally waiting for me to mix up real contractions with gas because I have a lot of painful pent up gas right now!
