Adalyn Update Feb 24!

Adalyn is doing MUCH better today! Thank you all who prayed and sent positive vibes her way! They have been decreasing the pressures on the oscillating vent and her O's (the extra oxygen requirement) is down from the 80s/90s to the 30s!! (FYI, 21% is the goal, as that is what room air is).

The doctor also told me that her bloodwork and chest x-ray were much improved. He is going to keep weaning her off the oscillating vent to the conventional vent, and will also stop her antibiotics in the next 24 to 48 hours. Her feedings have also gone up by 3 ml every 6 hours ( at 9pm Hands On it was 14ml), and she will be back to her full feedings of 17ml at midnight tonight. He will continue to taper her on the steroids tomorrow.

I can't stress enough how appropriate the analogy of being on a rollercoaster is to being in the NICU. I just hope that we just went down our big drop (ie, the first major drop in a roller coaster), and that all future drops won't be as bad as this one.

I was also able to see for the first time the beginnings of nipples on Adalyn! It is so weird that we weren't able to see them when she was first born. She also went up in weight to 2 pounds 2 ounces (970grams)!! Woo-hoo!

My pumping has been going phenomenally, and this morning's first pump was my largest one yet. I pumped 11 ounces in 1 sitting!!! For the last 5 days I've pumped between 35 and 40 ounces a day. I know that I am so fortunate to be able to pump and get this milk! I am quickly running out of room in our kitchen freezer, and soon will start filling up the beer fridge freezer out in the garage. I've also already recruited my parents and siblings use of their freezer if we need it. Smile

Yippee! I was watching some old reruns of the Duggars and they went through this with their Josie. She went up and down and up and down and now she is perfectly normal from what I can tell. I have faith Adalyn is going to be just fine!

i'm so glad to hear she's doing well, and weaning off the vent, and glad to hear she's able to tolerate more at feedings!! Hoping you get to enjoy some more hands on time!! congrats on the good news, wishing you all the best!!

So glad to hear that Adalyn is doing better! She sounds like a little fighter! Keep on fighting, Adalyn! And yay for having breastmilk to give her. That is definitely a great thing for her being a preemie.
