do you love where you live?

I love the state that I am in (michigan), but I wish I owned a home that had more privacy....bigger yard and neighbors who live further away....but I like that my house is close to things like restaurants, mulitple Targets, etc.  When H is done with school I hope we can sell this house and move.  But I can't figure out if I am a city mouse or a country mouse.

Where do you live and why?  Do you love it?  Hate it?  Never even thought about it? etc.

I'm DEFINITELY a city girl :)  I live in Avondale...basically Phoenix, AZ :)  and I LOVE it!  I love the weather and even when its 114 degrees outside I still love it :) I mean that's what AC is for!  I hate snow and cold weather so this is perfect for us.  I also like that we are nearby pretty much everything.  I can't say bad things about where I live...other than some parts of the Phoenix area are kind of scary...but you just have to know where to go and where not to go.

I'm more of a city girl, but DH is a country boy at heart.  We currently live in Eastern NC, near the Southern part of the Outer Banks.

We are in the military, so it's hard to find true urban locations for both of our jobs.  I'm very content where I am now, to be honest.  It is BEAUTIFUL.  People are nice.  It's inexpensive.  We have a great group of friends, who are more like family.  I do love it.

I live out in the country, and love it! The peace and quite, the kids have ample room to run and explore. We have all sorts of critters. Sure it has it's down sides, like you can't just call for delivery.

I live in Oregon and I love it. I'm definitely a country girl, I would die in the city but I do like being close enough to one that I can get stuff done. However if I didn't have land and a yard for my dogs and a garden I don't know what I'd do. We live outside in the summer.

I live in Southern California and hate it. I hate the ridiculously inflated prices, I hate the traffic, I hate the self important attitudes here, I hate how everything is on top of each other. I do love that I can go up to the mountains and the snow and then down to the beach for a swim on the same day (and have done it before). I would love to be able to live with a lot more space, less people, and more green. But this is where we are and we probably won't be leaving anytime soon.

I live in Las Vegas and hate it.  I moved here for a job about 6 years ago.  The strip is so far away and whenever you go down there, it's nothing but drunk tourists.  And the schools suck.  I want to get out of here before LO is school age.

    And I miss the seasons.

City, and I love it. I can walk to restaurants, pubs, multiple museums, theatres, shopping, parks, schools- pretty much anything you want. They're also constructing a light-rail which "should" be done in 2014, which will open even more possibilities for places to get to quickly and easily.

I have to have four seasons. My professorship before this one, I was in Florida, and I swear the weather actually made me suicidal. I once got heat exhaustion on New Year's Day when my car was stopped at a traffic light, and sun was baking me. I only lasted two years there. Ugh.

When I came here for this job interview, I saw there was snow on the mountains in the distance. After my interview, I just drove toward the mountains, and when I hit the snow line, I pulled over, stuck my arm in a snow drift, and started crying. I hadn't seen snow for two years, and I'd been dreaming about it, I missed it so much.

I live in town, but it's a small town. The college I teach at has a great agriculture department, so there are cattle, sheep, and horses on campus. If I have a rough day, I can go up and pet the horses... and there's something cool about hearing the animals when I get to work/leave work.

My town was voted the best town in Oregon to raise kids, so I feel really lucky. It's going to be so fun when my little guy is old enough to love the Children's Museum and stuff like that.

i live in a borough of new york city, and i hate it.  living here has become prohibitively expensive.  for instance, h and i will never own a home here.  it's just not feasible for many people our age. however, it is nice being close to everything that the city has to offer.

We live about 40 min outside Cleveland OH. I live in a suburb of Akron. Its nice bc it has a small town feel. There are a few farms down the road. But like 5 min the other way are all the shopping and restaurants. It literally has everything from Olive Garden, to outback and target and walmart. I love it, best of both worlds. I also like where we live bc we can go to Cleveland anytime with no issues. I grew up in Cleveland. Its nice for concerts, sporting events, restaurants and such. Plus my family is all there!

I have a love-hate relationship with where I live. In eastern ND, it's all farmland. If you were to ride in a plane over the Red River Valley (where I live) it looks like a patchwork quilt of fields. I live in a town of about 4800 people. The closest shopping mall, decent restaurants, and "big city" feel is about 45 miles away, and that's still a small town compared to where most of my fellow bumpies live. I like that we live in a small town where everybody is polite, friendly, and we all know the same people. My hate..... Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind you ladies talking about where you go shopping.... I just wish I were closer to places like that. Most places that are mentioned on TB are at least a 6 hour drive away from here.

I'm originally from near Buffalo, NY and have been about 40 mins out from Atlanta, GA for almost 7 years. I also have a love/hate thought about it. I hate hate hate summers, its waaay to f*cking hot and considering we didn't have a winter this year, I'm dreading summer. I'm so sad that its so hot here because we won't be able to spend days at the park, only a couple hours in the early mornings. I've never missed NY like I do now. DH will never move that far north though, so for now I have to suck it up. I'm definitely a cold weather person. Is like to live somewhere in the middle, but that's probably never going to happen.

Yes and No. My husband and I were able to buy my childhood house when my parents moved-a couple of years ago. I love the house and the property. We also have lots of family living in the same town--my parents, both brother in laws, my mother in law, aunts, uncles and cousins. Family is really important to us--so we see our family often. Plus, they help out a lot taking care of Reese while we are working, which is another bonus.

The frustrating thing is I don't drive--and we live in a suburb and of course no real public transportation--and I am realizing how difficult it is to not drive in the suburbs with a child. So I would love to live in NYC, but we definitely couldn't afford to live there--or want to move because all of of family is here in NJ. So it would be convenient for me to live there--and easier in some ways, but impractical in others.

I live in the suburbs, and I love it! I grew up in Brooklyn, then lived in Manhattan for a bit while in college, and I always craved quieter surroundings, especially to raise a family. I'm still in a fairly well-populated area with Targets and Walmarts and Starbucks - and I am less than an hour from NYC. However, we also have beautiful, large parks with trails and we can afford a spacious home in our neighborhood.

I live out in the country in central New York.  The city (Syracuse) is at 30-45 min drive away.  going into town is a 10 min drive.  I raised my older DD's in a city in Florida I loved it because there was always something to do somewhere.  How ever country life also has its advantages and I look forward to raising Beanie Girl differently then the older girls.

I live in the piedmont of NC.  I love NC.  I moved here from NJ when I went to college down here- I decided to stay.  And I love my house.  Very spacious, great setup, and awesome yard.  But last summer we moved to a new city and I hate that all my friends and family are 1.5 hours away :(image

I live in the south east.

I like the state I live in for geography (close driving distance to several other great cities/states) and climate (spring and fall are amazing!)

I like the city we live in because it's not too big and not too small. (About 300, 000)

I don't love my house (too small) or neighborhood (too busy), though we have a great yard. We live in an urban area, which is nice in one way because we are close to everything, but we want to move to a quieter part of town before LO is of school age.

ETA: The cost of living and real estate where I live is ah-mazing.

I have a love/hate relationship with where I live.  Like a PP I live in a West Side suburb of Phoenix, AZ.

I love Phoenix because all of my family is here.  I am also such a baby with cold weather and have no idea how to scrape ice off my car.  Heat doesn't bother me (likely because I've lived here my whole life, so I'm just used to it).  I like the suburb set up of Phoenix, it's pretty much a bunch of little suburbs of a metro area (this is also a downfall).

I hate Phoenix because our Gov. (Jan Brewer) is a moron.  Please don't judge all of AZ by her moronic speeches and idea's.  Our entire state senate and legislator are pretty moronic as well which has ruined our public education system and made us highly unattractive to outside business to help rebuild our economy (we were brilliant and built it entirely on new home build- we all know how that worked out).  This city is HUGE (literally you can span 200 miles from one end to another of the "metro Phoenix" area) and the transportation infastructure is horrible.  (In our metro area, spanning 200 miles, we have as many freeways as I can count on one finger, and they're set up horrible).

We also have NO culture.  For being the 5th (or 6th) largest city in the nation we do not attract a lot of plays/musicals/theater, musicians, etc.  We also don't have a lot of local culture which is sad.  I also wish we had more then 1 season.  We basically live in a constant state of summer, with breaks of cooler temps (today I had to contemplate turning on my AC).  The heat doesn't bother me, but I wish I got to wear my Ugg boots more then on vacation.

So there's my love/hate relationship with AZ :)
