I finally signed up for the online program and am playing around with all of the tools on the website. At this point, Iam going to stick to the online only for 3 months.
Can any experienced WW ladies give me some tips? I am really looking for anything, for example:
Where to begin--I am thinking of adding as "favorites" a couple things I regularly eat, is there something else I should do?
What you wish you had known when you started (like certain foods that are lower in points than you thought)?
Favorite tools on the website?
Are there other related websites where you gets lots of good advice (something like the DC bump page!)
Anything else you can think of?
Thanks for any advice. I am ready to do this, finally! (It is long overdue!)
Re: OT: Seeking WW Advice
Do you have a smart phone? If so, definitely download the WW app as well as the WW scanner.
As far as message boards, the WW website has message boards. I haven't used them much but I have read through a few of the boards and they seem to be relatively active. So, I would definitely check that out as a resource, especially since you are doing the online only.
I'm sure you already know this but most fruits and vegetables are free (except potatoes, corn, avocado, etc - look them up if you aren't sure). So, we eat a lot of veggies with our meals. For example, I always have frozen broccoli, carrots, peas, mixed veggies, etc. in the freezer so that I can get them out anytime.
For times that I don't want to cook or I need something easy, I eat frozen meals. SmartOnes have the points on the box. For other brands, I use the WW scanner in the store to see the point value (or you can use the calculator).
We bought this food scale which I really like for measuring meats and such. WW also sells a food scale for $40 which allows you to put in the food and it calculates your points.

Some people go through their kitchen and write the points on the boxes of their food so they know the values of everything which is a good tip.
That's all I can think of for now. Let me know if you have other questions.
Thanks!
No, I don't have a smartphone, and I can see where it would be really helpful if I did. I have been entering a lot food into the online tool. It's great to be able to do that after I eat, but I also want to know before I eat how much the points are going to be. I stopped by a WW center near me after work yesterday but they were closed---I was going to buy a calculator.
Thanks so much for the other tips!
Thanks. I think my biggest problem is portion size. I eat relatively healthy, but way too much. I appreciate the advice on snacks too!
Well, it can definitely be done without a smart phone. The online tool is great and after you've been on it a few weeks, you'll have a better idea of the points on things. I also sometimes like to pre-track meals. For instance, if I'm going out to eat, I'll look at the menu online since a lot of the websites will now tell you the fat, carbs, fiber and protein. That way I can enter the info in on the website and make sure that I'm getting a good value for my points. It takes extra time but it's much better than finding out later.
I ditto the other poster regarding portion sizing. DH and I measure all of our food with measuring spoons, cups and the scale.
Getting the calculator will be great for you since you don't have the smart phone. That way you can look up stuff when you are at the grocery store.
someone on the bump suggesting making some low point foods (soup I believe was the specific suggestion) & freeze so that days when you know that you're going to have a heavier-than-usual dinner/happy hour/whatever, you have an easy low point meal to off set it.
Having a variety of fruits & vegetables on hand (frozen or fresh or whatever!) is key for me.
Additionally, figure out low point treats for yourself so that when you're craving something sweet, you know what to go to. I keep a bar of Lindt Intense Orange in the freezer. 1 square is 2pts & it good for an "everyday" dessert for me.
LOL. That was me :-) Here's my favorite soup recipe. I take out the potatoes and sometimes I add shredded chicken breast. It comes out to about 3-4 points per cup/serving. It freezes very well and is great on cold winter days.

Thank you both! This is a great idea.
