Hello All!
My husband and I are choosing to be surprised about the gender of our little August Lion. We settled pretty quickly on a girl name, but are having a hard time with the boy name.
My husband's name is Rahsaan Ali and we would like for our son's name to have the same initials as his father's. Years ago before we were pregnant or even married we had decided on Reece which we both liked. However, now I see it used a lot more for girls instead of boys; although the spelling for girls is usually "Reese".
So, I was doing some research and found the original Welsh spelling, which is ?Rhys". The meaning is awesome and I think the spelling is phonetic. The meanings that were given were ultimate strength, king or zeal. I also like the spelling because it has an R and an H in the name like my husband's name. It also lets us use our first choice name without having to worry about having to spell it similar to more commonly use girl spelling. The baby's first and middle name would be Rhys Alexander.
So, with that said do you think I am saddling my son with a name that he will hate and that is too out there. It is pretty common among the Welsh, but not as common in the states. Having grown up with an odd full name, I would hate to turn around and do the same thing to my child!
Thanks ladies!!
Re: Rhys or Reece
I like Rhys Alexander a lot.
To me, Reece/Reese looks feminine and makes me think of peanut butter cups
. Rhys is the most masculine, traditional way to spell it. I like it!

Rhys is definitely the best spelling of the name - I would use it!
I like Rhys Alexander

Completely agree! It really bugs me to see a girl named Reese/Reece because it was originally a boy's name.
I will say, though, few people knew how to pronounce DS' name (his name is Rhys) because it is so uncommon here in the States. But we have gotten SO many compliments on his name! I also loved the meaning!

I'd go with Rhys Alexander - because my college boyfriend was Reece Alexander. Haha.
Honestly, though, I do think Rhys is a great name. Go for it!
This.
For boys, I much prefer Rhys than the other spellings.
