Transition to the Crib

Just wondering when you made the transition from co-sleeping to having the LO sleep in their own room in the crib? Or when you are planning too. My LO will be 4 weeks tomorrow, and doesn't seem to be comfortable sleeping in his PNP or bassinet in our room. When I put him in his crib during the day he seems to sleep so much better. However, I'm having some anxiety about putting him in his own room at night. Just wanted to see what other moms were doing.

Re: Transition to the Crib

  • My daughter still sleeps in her bassinet next to our bed, however, my productivity of the day was to move the crib mattress up.  I'm preparing to have her sleep in the crib at least one sleep time a day.  I haven't decided if it'll be a nap or maybe the first section of sleep at night.  My daughter tends to nap with on her father's chest or mine while we nap so I'm thinking the first section of sleep at night is the best.  As we are going on a trip this weekend I'll probably start that when we get back on Monday.

  • Our LO pretty much moved himself at about 2 1/2 weeks. He was in a bassinet by our bed and he let us know that he HATED it. He kicked and screamed every time we put him in it and no one was getting any sleep. I think it was because it restricted his arm movement (he likes to wiggle around a lot). So, we put him in his crib. It was easier than I thought it would be.

We have an angel care monitor and I really like it for the sound options. There is a continuous sound option or a voice activated one. We have it on voice activated this way I don't have to listen to static all night and every little coo and grunt, but if he makes any type of a fuss it kicks on and wakes me up. I actually think this is better because if he was in our room I would just sleep through all of it and now I feel like if something was wrong I'd have a better chance of waking up. Plus, it has the motion detector so I don't feel the urge to stand over him all night and watch him breathe (but I still do on occasion:) I kind of wish we had splurged and bought the new angel care motion/video monitor.

He has rolled into the side of the crib a few times but that was when we had him swaddled. Now we have him in a sleep sack and he tends to roll less I think because he can use his legs to stabilize himself.

It also helps that his room is about 2 seconds from my bed - the motion detector alarm went off last night and I think I had him in my arms in about 1.5 seconds.
