Late Term and Child Loss

Loss

Hi,

January 28th was the beginning of my loss. I learned that im RH negative. The ER doctor told me that was probably the main reason we had our loss. Although, we talked it over and are now trying to concieve, i still have, deep down, a bit of blame on myself because i feel i should have known my blood type.

Has anyone felt this way, or had a similar situation?

Re: Loss

  • I'm sorry for your loss.

How far along were you? They generally test for RH sensitivity in the very beginning of your pregnancy, so if you were any further along than like 8 or 9 weeks I'd be questioning why you weren't tested.

I'm RH negative. My understanding is that if your baby's blood is a + type, and your blood mixes w/ theirs, your blood can become sensitized and may attack a future pregnancy. They generally give Rhogam shots several times during pregnancy and once after delivery to avoid your blood being sensitized.

If your RH factor is known, it's something that can easily be managed during pregnancy. I have had a healthy full term baby in addition to my loss, and my RH factor had nothing to do w/ my loss.

They should follow up w/ some more bloodwork to make sure you haven't been sensitized since your loss.

All this exactly.  I have had 3 pregnancies that were all easily managed.

I am so sorry for your loss.

  • I was 6 weeks, and i got tested at the hospital when the bleeding began. They gave me a Rhogam shot immediately, but the next day it was a confirmed miscarriage.

    :(
