How do u bottle feed twins?

My twin girls are only a bit over a week old and I've had the luxury of a nurse to help out. She usually feeds 1 while I feed the other. I cant imagine how I"ll do this alone next week. I know some people use boppy pillows or car seats? I feel like they're used to being held while eating. And they take such a long time to eat that I cant do 1 at a time. Help! Thanks!

Re: How do u bottle feed twins?

  • i use my boppy pillows and sit them on either side of me.   you will make it work, believe me, i didn't think i could and now it is easy.
  • I did the boppy on either side of me on the couch or a carseat on either side of me on the couch.  The other thing I did was put on in a boppy or carseat and held the other then switched for the next feeding.

  • Two boppys on the floor. I used burp clothes underneath them and just held them both. I would take a mid break and burp and then finish feeding then burp. Nice things is they nap in them afterwards and I scoot them together and form a figure eight and lay a blanket between them. It also helps having them incline with spitting up leaving them there for a few minutes after they are burped and done if they aren't going to nap in them.

    Good luck.

  • Until my DH went back to work 3 weeks after the babies were born, each baby got held and fed (I did one, he did one). ?There was no issues with transitioning them to the boppies to eat. ?I sit on the couch and put one boppy next to me and one on my lap. ?Each baby gets a boppy. ?I alternate which baby sits in my lap each feeding so they get equal lap time. ?It's very efficient (30 minutes max, with burps and a little cuddle included).?
  • I usually sit "indian style" on the floor with one baby in the bend in my leg (head supprted just below my knee) and the other baby in a boppy next to me.  I trie dthe 2 boppy route, but I felt like I had to bend over too far to hold the bottles.

I also use Bottle Bundle props occassionally (for the calm baby) if one is having a meltdown during feeding time and needs to be held.

  • I'm a bouncy girl.  Each girl sits in a bouncy and I sit on the floor in front of them.  I used to feed them in their boppies during the night only.

  • I have the advantage of being a twin, so my parents had advice for me on this.  I use what my family calls the "dad method".  The dad method consists of sitting in a chair, holding one baby on each side of you with them facing out so that each of their heads rest on one of your shoulders, then hold a bottle in each hand, and curl your arms around them holding the right hand bottle to the baby on the right side and vice versa.

This is harder to learn than other methods, but much easier once you get it down. My father used this method when my twin sister and I were babies, but my mother could never seem to get it.  I used it from when my father taught it to me at around 2.5 months until now with sippy cups.  My husband just got the hang of it around 10 months.

Before I started the Dad method I would fed them where I sat on the floor and put my legs out in front of me.  I would put one baby on my legs and hold the bottle to them, and the other baby leaning against my side.
