February 2012 Moms

Trip to L&D...and back home

So we went for our first non stress test and biophysical ultrasound today. Ultrasound was first and the tech said that everything looked great. Baby is weighing in at 8 lbs 2 oz (although I know these can be very off) and received a score of 8/8, which dr said was perfect.

Then came the non stress test. The nurse hooked me up to the monitors and told us to enjoy the sound of baby's heartbeat and the dr would be in shortly to checkup on me. He came in, looked at the printing results and asked if I had eaten or drank at all...it was 1pm...I had breakfast AND lunch! Then he left and I started to panic. He came back in about 10 mins later and said that the baby's heart rate was elevated and asked if I had a fever and if I had been drinking enough fluids. No fever and plenty of fluids. So off to the hospital we went...and panic mode set in. They hooked me up to the monitors again and started IV fluids. The nurse who admitted me was great and super knowledgeable...in walks the intern to get my IV started and I almost cried. The nurse allowed her to try twice (both of which she missed and left my hand bloody and bruised) it took the nurse about 10 seconds and we were rolling.  They monitored me and filled me with fluids for about an hour and a half.  Baby's heart rate regulated and I was released. I am so glad that everything turned out well...I had hoped for a little while there that they'd be keeping me and we would have our baby today...but the fact that baby and I are ok is most important right now. I hope to be back there very soon...but with my water broken or some serious contractions!!

Emotionally, mentally, and physically draining day!!!
