Hi there!!

I saw your post in another IUGR post and rather than hijak that one, I thought I'd reach out to you directly.  I had my baby girl at the Brigham last year: 1.27.11 to be exact.  She had severe IUGR and was 2lbs 12oz at 34 weeks.  I was actually supposed to deliver at NWH, but was transferred to the Brigham because they have a higher level NICU.  Ultimately Dr. Audra Robertson delivered my girl, but I also saw Dr. Lisa Dunn and Dr. Daniel Katz.  Dr. Robertson was so reassuring and really listened to all of my concerns - I ended up with a c-section at 3 AM listening to phil collins in the background to create a nice calming welcoming environment for my stressed little girl to come in to Big Smile  The NICU was amazing - she spent a week in NICU C in the isolette and then was moved to D as a feeder/grower.  I know you will have a different experience with twins - but I just wanted to say hi and if you have any questions about the Brigham and IUGR please don't hesitate to contact me.  And here is a pic of Annie on her 1 week bday and her 1 year bday with the same cupcake:

  • Thank you for reaching out to me!! So nice to hear a positive stories! Your daughter is beautiful <: I have a little behind the scenes "know how" at Brigham as I work there in Cord Blood donation on L&D. I haven't "toured" the NICU yet though and haven't seen it in 22 years (as my sister was a 28 weeker there). I see Dr. Oxford, who is amazing! Dr. Katz was my original OB btw, he is really awesome I was just so high risk that he sent me to and MFM doc. I had a lung collapse at 14w due to scar tissue from chemo/radiation damage to my lung from when I was 23. I'm glad that you had a "good" experience and your daughter did so well!! These stories keep me very positive!! I wish the parking was free though! I can see that getting expensive! If both ours do well we may ask about moving them to Emerson (which has a level 2 NICU) it's only 30 min from my house. Boston is an hour and 1/2!!

  • The NICU is quite the operation.  Dr. Karen Puopolo was the neonatologist that took care of Annie when she was in ICU - she was wonderful, very supportive and soft spoken.  In the special care nursery Sarah Shulman was the pediatrician.  She had a different style then Karen, which took some getting used to, but I actually really liked her.  We ended up transferring to NWH after 2 weeks in the Brigham because the parking was crazy and NWH is much closer to us.  I was really torn about the transfer honestly - we were in a rhythm at the Brigham, the nurses knew us and we knew them.  And the actual transferring process was terrifying to me.  In the end NWH was great and she ended up only staying there for a week before being discharged!! I wish you the best of luck in your delivery and praying for strong healthy babies with a short NICU stay!
