stop the insanity! help w/ stuffed animal storage?

I'd rather not use her millions of stuffed animals to decorate her room - so I'm hoping another mom has come up with some idea to corral all the little guys somewhere that does not take up too much space.  I'm thinking of getting one of those large cylinder hampers (from Ikea or something) and putting them all in there in her closet.  That way she can see them all but they're out of the way (and out of the dog's way since he's captured a few lately) and she can easily help pick them up.

Any other ideas?  Right now they are in her toy box, but the toy box won't even close b/c of all the animals in there. oh, and we've also made it known (politely) that she does not need any more stuffed animals for gifts.

And if there are some that we need to get rid of - where can we donate these since a lot of places won't take stuffed animals?  I'd hate to trash them since some are hardly ever played with.

  • We have one of these.  It's nice, bc DD can access the animals if she wants. And she has her own "bean bag" chair.

  • Thanks Rosie, I saw those on that site too.  I think I like the hanging storage thingie the best since I can hide it in her closet hopefully.  The thing in the first link is HUGE - interesting idea, but it would definitely take up too much space.  I'm not a fan of the stuffed animal jail things that I keep seeing - it makes me sad for the animals :)

    what would we all do w/o p i n t e r e s t?

  • kelle - that is a pretty cool idea - I'll have to check into that.

  • If they are really clean, new and unplayed with, I'd be happy to bring them to work to supplement the jaguars we current give kids. Other employees have brought in Beanie Baby collections. Those were a HIT! A 5 year old totally let me start her IV with no hold help whatsover because she wanted an octopus.

You can try to include her in the process if she's amicable or smuggle them into a bag one at a time over time. I tried the gentle separation method with Abby and it didn't work so I had to get sneaky or become overrun with stuffed animails.
