If you had a c/s..please give me advice

On how to make it easier for me to still interact with my toddler? He is still at that phase where he wants to cuddle and get picked up sometimes. I am pretty attached to him still and I know I will feel really bad not being able to lift him up. How soon were you able to pick up your toddler? How did your toddler react when you couldn't pick him up yet? ANy advice on how to make it easier for the both of us? TIA

  • DS1 was 15 months when DS2 came along. I didn't pick him up the first weekand hafl then I had no choice since I was alone with them. I tried really hard to sit on the floor with him or the couch. Sitting on the floor was the easiest thing to do and he'd climb into my lap to cuddle. After the 2nd week, I didn't have much problems lifting him and he's a big boy. I just lifted with my legs so bending down to his level, getting him to wrap his arms around my neck then picked him up. I didn't bend over at the waist to pick him up.

I also had to put DS2 down quite a bit. I used the PNP in our dining room or I just put him on a blanket next to ds1 and I while we were on the floor. We also taught ds1 pretty early on before DS2 even came how to climb our stairs so I didn't have to carry him up/down them.

  • I didn't start lifting my toddler until about 2 weeks, and then I had to lift with just my legs because it was pretty painful. My mom was here for the first three weeks to do most of the lifting, and that was really helpful.

Since newborns tend to nap a lot, I used those times to cuddle with DS. We would read books together. I could have him on my lap if I placed him carefully. He did a lot better than I ever thought he would. I could also sit on the floor to play with toys.

  • I couldn't abide by my doctor's instruction not to lift my toddler. I lifter DD into her carseat the day we came home from the hospital with DS1. Plus, DH went back to work within a week of DS1 and DS2's birth and being a stay at home mom, picking them up is my job.

However, to minimize my lifting we put small stools near the couch or the chair that I normally sit in and at the end of my bed, so that DD (and DS1 after the birth of DS2) could come to me, instead of me to her.

  • I put a step stool at the foot of the bed so he could climb up and sat on the floor a lot so as to avoid him asking to be picked up and having to say no. Other people kept him entertained. I couldn't have done it by myself. I had each grandparent come for a week to help out ( we live far from family). I resumed picking him up at 2 weeks.
