Dr question

How often did you all see your ob...also did you see a high risk dr and how often did you have a u/s? I feel like I am falling thought the cracks at my dr office, and feel I am being treated like a singleton pg...  When I was told in the beginning I was high risk? Just confused!

Re: Dr question

  • We found out at 12w that I was having twins. I didn't have my next u/s until 20w (with MFM), monthly ultrasounds after 20w until the end of my pregnancy, and monthly dr appts until I think it was 30w when I went bi-weekly and then 34w when I went weekly.

  • I saw my regular OB once a month until 18 weeks.  Now I alternate my MFM and OB every two weeks.  I would have seen the MFM at 11 weeks if I wanted the NT scan, but I declined that.  My OB does a super quick u/s at each appointment just to check for the heartbeats.  The MFM does more in-depth growth scans at each visit.  With the exception early ultrasounds to date the pregnancy and then follow-ups for early bleeding, I was essentially treated like a singleton pregnancy until 18 weeks.

  • I didn't have my first u/s until 10w6d.  Then it was just one at every appointment.  So 14 weeks, 18 weeks, 22 weeks, and then it was every week to 3x week since I was having complications.  If your twins are mo/di then they really should be monitored for TTTS at least every other week after 16 weeks.  I wish I would have pushed for that.

  • I'm having mo/di twins and I've been alternating OB appointments and growth scans at the hospital every 2 weeks since my nuchal scan. So every week I see a doctor. OB appointments are pretty quick, pee in a cup, weight, talk about symptoms, listen to the heart beats, go over any test results, and I'm on my way. Growth scans take about an hour- hour and half- love seeing the babies every 2 weeks! I feel very spoiled.

Good luck! If you are feeling unsure, I'd talk to your doctor.

  • Thanks for all the feedback! I went for my 13 week apt yesterday... And they booked me for 5 weeks out. Just a reg doc apt too, no u/s or anything. Just seems strange to me!

  • We've been at an OB clinic at a major university hospital all along. Saw the OB monthly until the 20 week scan, after that scan revealed a neural tube defect for baby B we also started being monitored by the MFM team and getting genetics counseling. Started seeing the OB every 2 weeks after 28 weeks. We get some sort of US at every appointment, but it's usually just bedside, have only had 3 level 2 type scans and due for another at 32 weeks. Should note that my twins are di/di, so TTTS isn't a concern, so our care might not be as cautious as mo-moms.
