Tingly fingertips?

I had pretty tingly/numb fingers toward the end of my third trimester, which my OB said was due to my swelling from the pregnancy. It made sense, since I had some pretty intense swelling in my arms and legs. Well, I'm 3.5 weeks PP and my fingertips are still tingly. It feels like they're just starting to fall asleep, or how you lose the sensation just in the tips of your fingers when you're in the bath too long and let your fingers get pruny.

Did anyone else have this happen? How long did it take to go away? All of my other swelling seems to have gone away, and was gone within the first week. I'm worried that the sensation isn't going to come back.

  • It's probably worth mentioning to your doctor although by itself it probably isn't a big deal.  Maybe try drinking more water and watching your salt intake?  I'm no medical expert though.

  • I had numbing/tingling in my hands and fingers during my 3rd tri and pp. I am now 8 weeks pp and the swelling has finally gone away. I still have some tingling and numbness first thing in the morning sometimes. My dr said it should go away completely but suggested that if it contines much longer to go see a dr who specializes in RA. That was two weeks ago prior to being able to put my rings back on so I'm guessing it's finally improving.

  • You might want to ask your doctor about carpal tunnel.  I had it before I was pregnant and that was my first symptom when I first got it.  Mine got worse during 3rd trimester, and now, it's sooooooooooo bad.  I feel like my wrists and fingers are on fire.  I've heard that it can get worse during 3rd trimester and also PP.  If it can get worse at that time, I would think it can also develop at that time.

Yeah, this is what popped into my head - I've noticed if I hold DD while nursing with my left hand too long, it starts to feel weak and ache pretty badly.

Good to know that at 8 weeks PP your symptoms are starting to go away, PP - gives me hope!
