Parenting after a Loss

Stepping out from lurking

Hi ladies. I'am sorry I haven't been very active but Aidan has been keeping me quite busy :) I have been lurking a little bit and posting occassially, but not nearly as much as I used to post over at PGAL. Just wanted to congratulate all the new mommies that have ventured over here!! Congrats on all the adorable new babies!!!

Aidan has certianly kept me very busy and I'm loving every minute of it! He gained back his birth weight and much more....he gained a whole pound in one week! We are still having to supplement, but thankfully he's at least giving me a chance to pump a few times a day so it has gotten a bit better. He's been arching his back a lot though so they think he may have reflex. They put him on Zantac and we switched to the orange similac for gas/fussiness. He gets hiccups often but no spitting up....but he's constantly wanting to eat and We also started giving him gripe water because in the past three days he has gotten so gassy. :( He cries the second we put him down, and even grunts while sleeping....it's truly heartbreaking. The gripe water has been SOO helpful though! Hopefully it continues to work and this mommy can gets some sleep (I'd be happy with a 2 hour nap!). I feel like such a zombie lol

Today has been a little hard on me, one year ago today my life changed. I can't believe it has already been a year.It seems like yesterday I was standing in the bathroom counting every second until I could look at the test....my mind full of hope, dreams and then utter bliss when I saw two beautiful lines for the first time in my life. I really miss my little angels so much and it's milestones like these that really hit me hard. :( I will be holding Aidan just a little bit tighter today.

  • I am sorry, today has to be incredibly hard for you.  Huge hugs.

I am happy to see you are doing well with little Aiden, I hope his gassy/fussyness gets better.  We are having problems with Gabriel in that area too...We are also trying the Gripe water.  It does great with the hiccups but the spit up is still comming strong.

We are EBF but I have thought about asking the DR if the orange similac would be better for his tummy troubles..Though he is a great BF'er.

I hope we get to see more of you and little man lets you sleep  some!!  Gotta love the sleep deprivations right Wink

We have been lucky and don't have the spit up problem, but my pedi says he is wanting to eat all the time because it soothes him? I always thought babies with reflex had a hard time eating so I guess I learned something new. Aidan has a huge hiccup problem though. But everytime he gets them he poops too....at first I thought it was cute but now I just feel bad for the little guy.

I was so upset to have to supplement, but my milk supply was not what it should be and he had originally lost too much weight. Because he eats so much I didn't have any time I between to pump and he would nurse so long and get fussy cause he wasn't getting anything. So when that happens I'm grateful for the formula, but on the other hand I'm still wondering why the heck my supply isn't increasing to meet his needs. Ive been drinking mother milk tea and pumping when I can. I'm really hoping within the next week we can EBF.  We have been able to cut down on the formula on days iam able to pump so thats a plus. The orange formula foams a lot and it seems to be lighter and he tends to want to eat more of it. I haven't seen much of a change with him since we switched...but we shall see.

Hope your little guy starts feeling better too!!!
