C-sections

C-section tomorrow! Tylenol PM tonight?

I'm having my c tomorrow morning (eeek!) and have been too excited to sleep the last couple of nights. I was thinking about taking a Tylenol PM at 8:30ish to try to rest up, since I'll obviously be down sleep for a while. But I don't want to be too out of it tomorrow. Did anyone take anything the night before a scheduled C, and if so, do you have any thoughts?

I should mention that both my OB and the anesthesiologist said it was fine to take and that it wouldn't interact with any of the drugs.

Thanks!

Re: C-section tomorrow! Tylenol PM tonight?

  • Have you taken it before?  If I take Tylenol PM (or any sleep helper) I feel awful and hungover the next day, so personally, I wouldn't.  If you have taken it and not had adverse results, then do it.  I barely slept the night before either of my c/s.

    Good luck tomorrow!

  • Tylenol PM is just Tylenol and Benadryl combined.  If you have an adverse reaction to Benadryl (some people are totally knocked out/out of it for hours on end, others it has no effect on) then I may reconsider.

  • I took Tylenol & Benadryl the night before - due to contractions, but it helps me sleep.

  • I definitely wouldn't take it if you've not taken it before. I took it one night in college to make sure I was well-rested for finals... I didn't sleep for way longer than 24 hours. Apparently I'm one of those people with an opposite reaction to it and it made me wired and twitchy like I was going to jump out of my skin. No way would I want that before a c/s!!!

  • I have taken it before not pregnant and it definitely helped me fall asleep and I don't remember feeling drowsy the next morning.  If you do take it, just take the smallest dose possible.
