I put them in the washing machine every so often, but personally it's a pain to take it off the hooks. I usually do a splash of bleach in a bucket, fill with warm/hot water, and soak the end (it's off white), and let it soak. Does the trick.
Arctic - do you have open or S hooks? That makes it easier?
I have a fabric liner and curtain now - bought a couple years ago from a rec on here (I think from June?). Love it! I'll never go back to plastic again. It also doesn't cling to your leg like the plastic ones do. I just take it off and throw in the washer every other week or so. About half the time I skip the dryer if one of us need to shower, but it goes thru the dryer well also.
Our liner is fabric, I toss it in the wash EO week or so with my whites. I just replaced my hooks to the double open ended ones so it is easy to slip on and off.
I used to get the plastic ones but the smell was horrible.
Yep - we have fabric too (I wrote up a rave too but I think it was just last year)
That and S hooks (or even better the upside down T hook so you can ONLY take off the liner if you want) are a lifechanging combination!
I usually toss both in the washer together, then go clean the tub/shower, do a light dry on them and put them back up a little damp. It feels like a spa in there when it's done! Haha..
We have hooks where I have to open every single one, it is a pain to open up all the hooks (kind of hurts my fingers). I will have to check out the hooks you guys are talking about!
We got a fabric liner recently and I plan on throwing it in the wash when it gets dirty. I'll have to look in to those different kinds of hooks, it's definitely a PITA trying to open each one!
Re: Shower Curtain Liner?
I re-use them- if I let L play with water or paint I will put it on the floor...
I save them for when my husband paints or does a "project"....helps with clean up
