Trying to Get Pregnant

B6 Confusion!

Ok so I know there has been several threads on B6, but I need some clarification. I know that if taken, B6 might lengthen LP period. BUT, should it be taking before Ovulation, yes or no?

I read that it can make you ovulate early/late not sure if that's correct. I take a prenatal vitamin that has 2 pills of B6. I stopped taking the B6 after I read that it messes with your cycle, but I would like to start taking it again if that's not true.

Thanks ladies.

Re: B6 Confusion!

  • I take a multi-vitamin that has a B complex (including B6) everyday. I have noticed that it helps keep my LP a consistent length. It has absolutely no affect on when I ovulate.

If you are seeking more information on B6 and nutrition, I suggest Marilyn Shannon's Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition: 4th Edition.  It's heavily research and very detailed.

Do you know how much B6 is in your PNV already?  You don't want to be taking much more than 100 mg per day--for a lot of women, 50mg is plenty of supplementation.  However, most PNVs only have 2-3mg.

It shouldn't have an effect on ovulation, but on your luteal phase.  Some women might think it makes their periods "longer" and therefore deals with ovulation, but it's really more about the LP.  However, if your LP is short because of a progesterone problem, the B6 probably won't help you much, just so you're aware.  Personally, I take it every day--but definitely starting CD1 until O.

Obviously, any supplements should be checked with your healthcare provider, too!

Yes, 2 tablets of 25mg each. I'm taking CitraNatal B-Calm.
