My LO is 5 1/2 weeks old and for about 2-3 weeks she sleeps 4-7 hour stretches at night. We've even had a couple 8 hour stretches. The thing I did was I started giving her a bottle of breast milk at night and that seemed to help a lot! She tends not to eat as much when she nurses directly from the breast.
My DD has been sleeping for 7 hour stretches since 3.5 weeks. DH will give her a bottle of BM, then she'll wake up for a snack 2 to 3 hours later and after that sleep for 7 or 8 hours. However she rarely sleeps during the day. I feel lucky if she takes one 20 minute nap.
They need to hit about 12-13 lbs before they have the stomach capacity to eat enough to sleep through the night. Right now my LO is about 9.75 lbs and he's sleeping 4-5 hours at a time.
