Potty Training

is it so bad to put them in a diaper/pull up to run errands etc in the beginning?

I am having enough trouble dealing with this whole thing but the thought of pee filled car seats and puddles of pee in stores when I have another 2 yr old along to have to drag to the bathroom or whatever is quite unappealing. am I really messing things up if I stick her in a diaper to leave the house?

  • Im potty training DD right now and I can relate.  I take her to go potty right before we are out the door.  Instead of pull ups she wears regular underwear with a diaper outside.  This way, her pee doesnt got everywhere if she has an accident AND she can feel the wetness.  Right now shes awesome about going pee/poo when I sit her on the toilet but hasnt learned to tell ne yet that she has to go.  I take her every 1 to 1.5 hours to the bathrooom.  When we are out and about I make sure to not break our training and take her to go potty at the same time intervals.

  • it is just confusing.

I would suggest planning trips so it doesn't cause you so much stress.. let your child go  before you leave and then plan on being  somewhere with a bathroom if your out too long. I was afraid like your but turns out I just had to make sure she could use the toilet in a timely manner.

  • I didn't want to confuse DS so we keep a potty seat in the car.  I have him sit on it before we go into any store.  We were in the drive-thru of Wendy's when he said he had to go so I pulled out of the line and into a parking spot so he could get in back and go. (We have a Subaru Outback) We have been potty training and this is week 3. He has been in underwear the entire 3 weeks, pull ups at nap and diapers at night only (he pees sooo much at night the pull up can't handle it). If we are in a store I make sure I know where the restroom is as soon as I get in so we can run for it if he has to go. He was afraid of the big toilet but I reassured him that I would hold him and he was fine with it.

We had our first accident at Costco today but it was mostly my fault.  I haven't encountered one of the toilet seats that are horseshoe shape and the stall was too narrow to side saddle it. (I usually go in the handicap stall but it was occupied) I didn't get his penis in quite right and he peed on the seat cover and all down the side of the toilet, getting his underwear and pants wet too.  Lesson learned.  I'm working on peeing standing up this weekend.
