If you have two girls...

how much are you spending on toddler Easter dresses? And where? I found some cute dresses for $24.99 each (surprisingly at KMart), but it kills me to spend $50 for just the dresses. I need dresses with sleeves or with a sweater because we're in NY...I just can't do the sleeveless route.

Re: If you have two girls...

  • I usually get them dresses at Marshall's for around $20 each. Last year a friend gave me 2 matching dresses (she has 2 girls who are the same age difference as mine, but a year older).

This year, I found some adorable dresses at the Hartstrings outlet and couldn't resist. They were around $40 each. While they're dressy enough, they're made out of a more flexible/t-shirt like material so I feel like the girls will get more wear out of them. They're wearing them on Friday for school pictures (also doing the girls together, which is so nice), then to see the Easter bunny, then Easter day. After that, they can wear them whenever they want and still be comfy thanks to the material :) That's my justification ;)

Oh, and they are sleeveless, but they'll be wearing a white cardigan over the dress. The girls both have plenty of white cardigans so that's one less thing to buy.

  • I haven't Easter dress luck like I have with Christmas dresses.  I've gotten most of her Christmas dresses at high-end consignment stores or sales for $10 or less.  I think I've spent $20-$25 for Easter dresses, but they've ended up doubling as birthday dresses, too because her bday is 4/2.  I guess I figured I'd be reusing everything from DD1 with DD2 since they'll be 4 years apart, but with birthdays only weeks apart.

  • I usually just get dresses at Target or similar, for under $15 each.  I try not to get anything super frilly that they'll never wear again--I just hate to waste the money to buy dresses they'll only wear once, so I try to get "holiday" dresses that don't look holiday-ish (like just plain red for Christmas instead of a Santa-looking dress or snowflakes or anything).
  • I usually buy after the holidays on clearance for the next year - this year DDs won't match but plan to get matching dresses after Easter for next year.  I plan to spend about $15-$20 per dress.  Think the one I got DD1 last year was $12. (DD2 will wear a nice hand me down dress from DD1.)

  • I don't like to spend more than $15 a piece.  I'm surprised K-Mart was so $$$.  I bought DD's Easter dress there 2 years ago and it was $10.  Try Marshall's or TJ Max, otherwise are there any outlet stores near you?  I think I might buy the girls next year dresses at the end of this season because things are getting ridiculously pricey.

  • I will probably be getting DD's dress from Gymboree, they have some cute dresses on sale right now for around the same price.
  • Thanks! I will look into TJMaxx (Marshalls sucks around here). Target didn't have anything cheaper.

  • I like Ebay for this.  I have expensive taste and usually find like new dresses for very good prices.  I know what brands I am looking for and do a search.  In addition, I also try to buy a year ahead during after holiday clearance.
