Clementine

It's the name we have chosen for our little girl. I've always loved the name, it was my great-grand-mother's. It's soft, girly, unusual but not too out there. So well, we love it and it fits well with my partner's last name.

We've being getting mixed response, from ''OMG LOVE IT!'' to ''really? oh yeah it's cute''. What do you experts think?

It's cute. NMS, but not bad. I think of 2 things, the first being the mini oranges. The second being "oh my darlin', oh my darlin', oh my darlin' Clementine, you are lost and gone forever, oh my darlin' Clementine"

I also like the NN Clem.

I automatically start singing "Oh My Darling" when I hear it. It's NMS but I do love names with a family connection.

I loooove Clementine. Love, love, love it. I couldn't get DH on board with it when we were pregnant with DD, but it's still a great name and I think it's an awesome choice.

I think it's a cute name, and it's great that it has family significance for you. I suspect it's one of those names that is rapidly growing in popularity, though so I don't think it will be unusual for long.

Personally, I hate the nicknames Clemmie and Clem (which to me is an old man's name), because they lose all the elegance of the original name.

ETA: oh, my bad, guess it's Calliope... oh well, it still reminded me of greys and I still like the name!

It's NMS and I immediately think of the fruit or the song, but I have noticed a lot of people like this name, so I wouldn't worry about it. I have yet to meet any Clementines in person but see it all the time on baby name websites/forums so I might be in the minority. If you and your husband love it and it is special to you, that's all that matters. Go for it!

I'm just kind of meh about it, to be honest. If I met somene named Clementine I would probably think, "Wow, her parents were trying really hard to be quirky and cool." But I love that it's a family name for you! I just wouldn't automatically assume it's a family name, if that makes sense.

I know a Clementine and was kind of meh when I heard it. However, the little girl has totally grown into it and I love it for her. I really like Emmie as a NN.

It's pretty. I think of the oranges, the song, Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), and the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Based on this, if I met a young Clementine, I'd probably think her parents were trying to be cool - naming her for the character in the movie who anyone with hipsterish inclinations would want to be like or be seen as being like...

But I'd get over that after meeting the girl and/or her parents - and of course the child will come to own the name.

I do think it is pretty.

I also like, as do others, that you have family meaning for it.
